ximately 100 veterinarians have clinical appointments within the numerous specialty services offered by the Hospital. The Hospital also has a state of the art Emergency Critical Care Medicine Service that is open 24/7. Advanced diagnostic equipment such as MRI, CT, nuclear scintigraphy, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, cardiac catheterization, and endoscopy are available to assist our highly trained specialists to determine the exact source of your pet’s problem. The Hospital not only uses the latest technology, but also creates it. The Hospital combines its expertise with the empathetic culture of truly caring about you and your pet.

Great veterinary care starts with a strong veterinary team.

This fall, the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine is launching Practice with Confidence: Leveling Up Veterinary Teams, a brand-new continuing education program designed to help the entire veterinary team strengthen communication, maximize team utilization, and prepare for emerging disease threats.

We’ve heard from veterinary professionals across the state about the challenges they’re navigating, and we’re excited to respond with practical tools and meaningful conversations that will support exceptional care.

The program will take place on Friday, October 9, at The Graduate in East Lansing during MSU Homecoming Weekend. Registration is $99, which includes the full program and lunch. Attendees are also invited to continue the celebration at our annual Homecoming parade, tailgate, and Spartan football game!

There is not much about Loki that is small. Not his size, not his energy, and certainly not his place in the life of his owner, Hannah.

So when the six-year-old Great Dane suffered a serious gunshot injury to his front leg, Hannah rushed him to the MSU Veterinary Medical Center. There, Loki’s orthopedic surgery team used a minimally invasive approach to repair his fractured humerus while preserving the surrounding tissues.

His case highlights the expertise available through MSU’s Minimally Invasive Orthopedic Surgery Fellowship Program, one of only four academic programs worldwide offering this specialized training.

Can lost vision be recovered? 👁️

A groundbreaking study led by researchers at the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine shows that single-dose gene therapy in dogs did more than halt inherited blindness—the treatment prompted adult retinas to rebuild damaged connections, thicken, and recover lost visual function.

Because dogs naturally develop eye conditions similar to humans, this success opens promising possibilities for treating human childhood blindness down the line.
