We're incredibly grateful for our partnership with the dedicated team at Rhode Island Kitten Kits! This week, they delivered three more neonatal kitten emergency kits to help ensure the tiniest, most vulnerable patients have the supplies they need when every second counts. These lifesaving kits are only possible because of the incredible support system and generosity of Rhode Island Kitten Kits. Their compassion helps equip veterinary teams with the resources they need to give orphaned and critically ill kittens the best possible chance at survival.

Together, we're making a real difference for Rhode Island's most fragile felines—one kitten at a time. Thank you for helping us change the care for the most vulnerable. 💗🐾

We are incredibly grateful to Chuck and Robbie M., who generously donated $8,500 to Ocean State Veterinary Specialists in memory of their beloved dog, Champ. This meaningful gift will help our Surgery Department purchase a new surgical monitor, allowing our team to provide advanced care to even more patients in need.

While we know no donation can replace a beloved companion, we are deeply touched that Chuck and Robbie chose to honor Champ’s memory in a way that will help other pets and families for years to come. Thank you, Chuck and Robbie, for your extraordinary generosity and for turning Champ’s memory into a gift that will continue to make a difference. ❤️

This donation means so much to our entire team, and we are honored to carry Champ’s legacy forward through the care of the patients who will benefit from this new equipment.

Sweet Gustav was recently seen at our Urgent Care service by Dr. Natalia Marfil for an abscess or growth in the mouth, sneezing, and scratching more often at his ears. An examination revealed a mass on his tongue. Dr Marfil recommended an anesthetized oral exam and biopsy to better understand the mass and referred him to our Internal Medicine team for further evaluation.

Internist Dr. Gary Block and his technician, Sarah, examined Gustav and prepared him for sedation. Once Gustav was comfortably sedated, the team was able to take a closer look and discovered three masses on his tongue. Multiple biopsies were collected and sent to the laboratory for testing to help determine a diagnosis.

Gustav did wonderfully throughout the procedure and recovered without any complications. ❤️

This sweet boy is now home with his family, where he’ll be showered with love while everyone waits for his biopsy results. We’re keeping our fingers and paws crossed for good news for Gustav!

UPDATE: Gustav's biopsy results came back, and it is not cancer! 🎉

Frederick came to our hospital for evaluation of a lesion on one of his front digits. Dr. St. Germaine, in collaboration with our exotics specialist, Dr. Spelman, initially recommended treating the lesion with topical medication and soaking Frederick in Amphibian Ringer’s solution. When the lesion and swelling did not improve, Frederick returned to our Exotics department for further evaluation. The team determined that a toe amputation was the best course of action.

Before his procedure, Frederick was bathed in Amphibian Ringer’s solution to ensure he was adequately hydrated. He was then placed in an anesthetic bath containing buffered tricaine methanesulfonate and received fentanyl for pain management. The affected digit was carefully amputated at the joint. Absorbable sutures were then placed to control bleeding and close the incision.

Frederick's owner updated us that, immediately upon returning home after the procedure, Frederick appeared happier and was eating and navigating around the enclosure better than beforehand. 💚
