🐾Hello, friends! With the holiday weekend rapidly approaching we have a few reminders...🐾

If you know or think your furry friend may need assistance with the upcoming fireworks and/or loud festivities please start making plans NOW. Whether that is refilling or requesting medications, setting up safe places for them to get comfortable, updating identification tags and/or breakaway collars, microchipping, etc. Many hospitals, including ours, will have reduced holiday hours so please do yourself and your friends a favor and plan, plan, plan!

If you're thinking of letting your pets share in on the festivities, remember that not all tummies are created equal and that many of the BBQ foods that we enjoy are pancreatitis, HGE, foreign body nightmares and no one wants to follow up the weekend of fun with watching their pet in agony or an ER bill. Greasy and fatty foods are not meant for your pets; try and get your party goers on the same page or keep your pets separate to avoid any dietary indiscretions.

The hospital will be closing by 3pm on Thursday the 2nd and not re-opening until 9am Tuesday the 7th (7:30am for our surgery patients only, the phone will not be answered before 9am). As always, the phone, email, and texts will not be monitored during these closed hours and we urge you not to reach out and then wait until we are back for urgent matters; many of the local urgent care and emergency hospitals will be available to you (but please, do them and yourselves a favor and try and have a safe and happy holiday!).

If you need them, the numbers are as follows:
Capital District 518-785-1094
Upstate Veterinary Specialties 518-783-3198
PetMedic 518-282-0040
Animal Emergency Clinic of the Hudson Valley 845-336-0713

We hope everyone has a happy and healthy Fourth of July holiday weekend surrounded by friends and family! šŸŽ†šŸ„³

**ā„ļøUpcoming Storm, Hospital Closureā„ļø**

Hello everybody! Anyone who has an appointment tomorrow, Monday the 23rd, should have already received a text message notifying you that your appointment has been canceled as the office will be closed for the day due to the upcoming storm. There are no cancellation fees for tomorrow’s appointments and when we are back in the office we will begin the process of making calls to get everyone rescheduled! We thank you for your patience and understanding.

We understand that the storm maps seem to be all over the place as to how much we will be getting and because there is the potential for dangerous conditions we have decided to close for the day.

We will be open on Tuesday for our regular hours, including our usual drop off hours for scheduled surgical procedures and hospital stay patients.

There will not be anyone in the office to answer the phone to direct your call or answer questions. If you have an emergency please call one of our local emergency hospitals.

Voicemails and texts will only be checked once we are back in the hospital and answered as we are able to get to them, and will prioritize the most urgent requests.

We hope you all have a safe snow day! Snuggle up with you furry friends if you can and enjoy the snow when it’s safe to do so ā˜ŗļø

šŸŽ†It's TiiIIIIIiiiiMmMeeeeee...šŸŽ†

The 4th of July holiday is rapidly approaching!

The hospital will have shortened hours on Thursday the 3rd and closed on Monday the 7th, returning to our normal schedule on Tuesday.

Some tips to set up you and your pet for success:
⭐If your pet is anxious with the festivities and requires medications, please make sure you are stocked up before the weekend! Thundershirts, calming chews, sprays, and diffusers are just some of the over-the-counter aids available for those with milder symptoms.
⭐Have a safe space! Do not leave your pet unattended, especially if the area they are left in has space for them to escape or injure themselves- no space is too small when your pet is scared! It is not unheard of that pets have tried to squeeze themselves through gates, dig through doors, fall down stairs etc. if they are seeking a safe place to hide. Make sure their collar is a safe break-away style, so that the risk of them getting stuck somewhere is reduced.
⭐Make sure your pet has contact info on them- if your pet is microchipped make sure your info is current, make sure that your pet has tags with contact information that is up to date.
⭐Be cautious when mixing alcohol, cookout foods, and fireworks around pets- pets will try and eat them, will try and "catch" fireworks as they take off, will lick up a bottle on the ground, will steal food and utensils that smell like it off the table when you're distracted and many of these scenarios turn into emergencies when your veterinarian is not open!
⭐ Many of our favorite cookout meals are toxic and/or dangerous for our pets: do not offer your dog any meats that have been seasoned or covered in sauce (no bones, nothing high in fats and fried) no grapes or raisins, onions, garlic, avocado, chocolates or treats made with xylitol. If you aren't sure, don't feed it!
⭐It is okay to talk to your neighbor about your concerns for your anxious pet before the festivities begin! Whether this just means asking your neighbor to be mindful or to be on the lookout for an escape artist, it is always best to be honest about your concerns!

If you have an emergency while the office is closed, please refer to our attached list of local clinics!

We wish you all a happy, safe, and fun holiday weekend!

Next and last, but surely not least on the Forest Ridge ā€œlistā€ for Assistant’s Week we want to take a moment to celebrate the guy that keeps us laughing and does all of the heavy lifting…

šŸ‹ļøBrandonšŸ‹ļø

Don’t let his youthful looks fool you, Brandon has been in veterinary medicine for around 20 years! You read that right. Brandon can be found doing all kinds of things to keep the day moving and keep us laughing even on the toughest days. He keeps everything from the rooms clean between every single appointment, making many small repairs to keep things running around the hospital, keeping all of our surgery equipment in working order and works tirelessly to keep packs up to date and sterile, makes friends with even the most anxious of pets and turns even the biggest lug into a pile of mush during their exam.

Brandon has probably been slobbered on, peed and pooped on, a**l glanded, covered in ā€œdistractionā€ snacks, sent out to collect urine or find an awol stool sample, more than any of us could count and he never complains but he’ll surely share it with the group for a good laugh.

Thank you for all that you do, Brandon, Happy Assistant’s Week!

Today for Assistant’s Week we wanted to take a moment to shine a little spotlight on the man, the myth, the cat legend….

✨KEVIN ✨

An assistant is just one short word to sum up a person who has MANY titles around here at Forest Ridge. Kev, though more of a reserved and quiet presence among the madness, can often times be found assisting at the front desk, helping on the phone, meeting with vendors, taking care of our ordering needs, fixing endless computer bugs/user errors/haunted printers, sharing funny cat photos and other cat related updates pretty much on the daily, but his true joy and passion is the time he gets to spend in the rooms with clients and their pets.

Okay, okay… Let’s just be transparent here… it’s the cats. Bring Kevin all the cats in the world and he’ll be taming them with Churu, squeezing them in his scrub pockets, getting them to do ā€œbaby kittyā€ and ā€œbig stretchesā€, measuring them in increments of Jimbo’s, and have them falling asleep during their exams for starters.

Happy Assistant’s Week and thank you for everything you do! šŸˆšŸˆā€ā¬›šŸ¾

Well, that’s a wrap! šŸŽ šŸŽ„ā„ļø

As we get close to the very end of 2024, we’d like to thank you all for such an amazing first ā€œyearā€ here at Forest Ridge. This holiday season we have a whole community of pet parents and their best friends to celebrate with and be thankful for!

We do, of course, have to celebrate with some special holiday hours though:

We will be closed tomorrow for Christmas and back again on Monday the 30th from 9-5, Tuesday the 31st from 9-4, closed New Year’s Day, and resuming our regular schedule Thursday the 2nd with hours from 9-7.

We wish you all safe and happy holidays… whether that’s surrounded by friends and loved ones, snuggled up for quiet days in with your pets, or going on some holiday travels… and even if this has been a tough year, you’re working extra holiday shifts, or you’re missing a loved one or a furry best friend we hope that you find some joy and think of some cherished memories this holiday season!
