We love hearing feedback like this, especially because it highlights something really important - access to the right veterinary care matters.

Small mammals like rabbits (including angora breeds) have very specific medical needs, and not every clinic is equipped or experienced to treat them. That can make it stressful for pet owners to know where to go when something comes up.

Whether it’s a routine exam or something more complex, our goal is to make sure pet owners feel informed, supported, and confident in the care their animal is receiving.

If you have a rabbit or other small mammal and aren’t sure where to go for care, we are always happy to help answer questions or get them scheduled!

Stinky pet? Not all pet odors are created equal and sometimes, that smell is trying to tell you something.

Here are some common sources to check for:
• Poor grooming can trap dirt, moisture, and debris in the coat, especially if your pet stays damp. Over time, that can lead to bacteria or yeast buildup.
• Skin diseases often come with a musty or “Frito-like” smell, which can point to yeast or fungal infections.
• Ear infections can have a strong odor too, often ye**ty or even similar to sewage.
A**l glands naturally have a strong, fishy smell, but when there is a problem, that odor can become even more noticeable.
• Dental disease is another big one. Bad breath is not just unpleasant, it can be a sign of underlying dental issues.
• Sometimes odor can also be linked to medications, certain diets (especially fish-based), gas, or even the occasional run-in with a skunk.

Any odor on the pet attributed to a disease should be evaluated via a vet visit, but how about odors and stains in your home caused by your pets? Using the right products can make a huge difference in actually removing the odor (not just covering it up). A few pet-safe options we like:
• Anti-Icky-Poo
• Scoe10X The Odor Eliminator
• Zero Odor
• Pooph
• Chlorox’s GREEN line

Not sure if the smell you are noticing is normal or something more? Give us a call, we can help figure out what is going on and what to do next.

We are so sad to share that our amazing technician, Kris, will be moving to Japan in mid-June.

Kris has been such an important part of the Eagle Vet team. From her knowledge and attention to detail to the way she connects with both pets and their people, she has made a lasting impact on our clinic and everyone who has walked through our doors.

Our patients have been in such good hands with her, and her positive energy (and constant smile!) will definitely be missed around here.

We are not quite sure what Japan has that Idaho doesn’t 😉, but we’re so excited for her next adventure and everything ahead.

If you see Kris in the clinic over the next few weeks, be sure to wish her well, we know she would love that!

Ticks are more than just a nuisance, they can carry diseases like Lyme disease, anaplasmosis, and ehrlichiosis, and we are seeing these cases increase here in Idaho.

In fact, nearly 1.8 million dogs in the U.S. were diagnosed with a vector-borne disease in 2024, and exposure to tick-borne illness can increase a dog’s risk of developing chronic kidney disease by over 100%.

The tricky part? Ticks are often picked up in everyday places like yards, parks, and trails… not just deep in the woods.

The good news is there are simple ways to reduce your pet’s risk:

Staying consistent with a tick preventative is your first line of defense.
It is also important to do daily tick checks, especially after time outdoors, paying close attention to areas like the ears, neck, and between the toes.
When possible, try to limit time in heavily wooded or tall grassy areas where ticks are more commonly found.

A few small habits can go a long way in protecting your pet from some very serious diseases.

As we head into warmer months, parasites like fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes become much more active making prevention more important than ever.

This month, we are offering 15% off Simparica TRIO and Bravecto to help keep your pets protected.

Simparica TRIO prevents fleas, ticks, heartworm disease and intestinal parasites. This medication is given once monthly. Your pet must have a current heartworm test to be started on this medication.

Bravecto is a great option for long-lasting flea and tick control (up to 3 months for dogs and 2 months for cats). Just keep in mind it doesn’t cover heartworm, so pairing it with a heartworm preventative is key for full protection.

If your pet isn’t currently on prevention (or it has been a while), May is a great time to get back on track.

Spring tends to mean more time outside, for both us and our pets. But with open doors, yard projects, visitors coming and going, and more outdoor adventures, it is also one of the most common times for pets to slip away unnoticed.

That is why microchipping is such an important safety net.

A microchip can make all the difference in getting your pet back home if they ever get lost. Unlike collars or tags that can fall off, a microchip is permanent and lasts your pet’s entire life.

It is also quick, safe, and affordable (just $53.76 at Eagle Vet), and can be done during a routine visit.

One thing many people don’t realize, your microchip only works if your contact information is up to date. If you have moved, changed phone numbers, or are not sure your info is registered, it is worth taking a few minutes to check.

If your pet isn’t microchipped yet, or you need help updating your information, we are here to help make it simple!

Since we’re offering 20% off heartworm testing for the month of April, it is a great time to talk about why this matters.

Heartworm disease is spread through mosquito bites and can cause serious damage to the heart, lungs, and blood vessels of both dogs and cats. Once infected, pets may develop lasting complications, and treatment, especially in dogs, can be lengthy and physically demanding.

One of the challenges with heartworm disease is that many pets do not show obvious signs early on, allowing the disease to progress quietly over time.

The good news?

Prevention is safe, easy, and significantly more affordable than treating an active infection.

That is why we recommend keeping pets on consistent, year-round heartworm prevention. It only takes a single mosquito bite to put your pet at risk, even here and even if they spend most of their time indoors.

If you are unsure whether your pet is up to date or want to explore the best prevention option for their lifestyle, we are always happy to help guide you.

Call us to get them protected for the season ahead. 🐾

With warmer weather comes more mosquitoes which means it is time to start thinking about heartworm protection again.

Heartworm disease is spread through mosquito bites, and because pets often do not show symptoms early on, regular testing plays an important role in protecting their health.

Yearly heartworm testing helps us catch infections early and ensures your pet is on the right prevention moving forward.

To help make it easier to stay on top of your pet’s care, we are offering 20% off heartworm testing throughout the month of April.

Give us a call to schedule your pet’s test and keep them protected this season.

After the colder months, many pets are a little less active, and those “hibernation pounds” can sneak up fast. In fact, more than 50% of dogs and cats in the U.S. are considered overweight or obese, making it one of the most common health concerns we see.

Spring is the perfect time to take a fresh look at your pet’s routine. Small changes like adjusting portion sizes, getting back into regular walks, and being mindful of treat habits can make a big difference.

If you have noticed your pet slowing down or looking a little rounder than usual, now is a great time for a quick weight check. We can help you figure out what a healthy weight looks like for your pet and how to get there safely.
