VCA Eagle River will be a checkpoint sponsor for two of the Suburban Challenges by Healthwise this summer! Thursday, July 9th and Thursday, August 13th! The Suburban Challenge run events are similar to a scavenger hunt! At 6pm SHARP on the night of the run, Healthwise will post a list of participating businesses on our Facebook and Instagram pages and unveil a map in the Healthwise Care Center parking lot (start and ending location of the event). The participants then run or walk to that business to pick up a raffle ticket.
Participants will have one hour to reach as many checkpoints as possible to collect their tickets.
At 7pm SHARP, participants will return to the Healthwise parking lot to put their tickets in for the
drawing for prizes donated by the participating local businesses!

The Annual Bear Paw Festival will soon be happening in Eagle River! It will be from Wednesday, July 8th until Sunday July, 12th! There may be some road closures, so please keep that in mind when heading this way! We recommend taking the intersection at Business Blvd and Old Glenn Hwy at Carrs. We will be closed Saturday, July 11th and will reopen Monday, July 15th at 7am!

Here are some tips for the 4th of July weekend!
• Keep your pet indoors during prime firework show times
• Confirm your microchip contact information and ID tags are current, so you can be easily reunited if your pet escapes
• Create a safe, quiet space for them with comforting items, such as their favorite toys and a cozy bed, and provide engaging treat puzzles and chews for distraction
• Consider using calming products, such as pheromone sprays and diffusers, compression wraps like a Thundershirt, and soothing music, to help reduce their anxiety

Some pets may also require prescription medications to help with their anxiety and fear. Please call your veterinarian to discuss these options! If you need a refill of one of these medications please let us know in advance!

It's Dog Anxiety Awareness Week!
This week focuses on canine mental health! It’s important for owners to recognize symptoms of anxiety in their dog. Some things to look out for may include:
-Destructive Behavior: Chewing, digging, or destroying things
-Physical Signs: Excessive drooling, panting, or trembling
-Behavioral Changes: Excessive barking, howling, or whining
-Restlessness: Pacing, inability to settle, or compulsive behaviors
-House Accidents: Urinating or defecating indoors despite being housetrained

It’s important to create a safe space for your dog to feel comfortable. Dogs thrive on predictability, so keeping a consistent routine is also key. Dogs need exercise and enrichment, make sure your dog gets enough physical and mental activity daily, as this can release energy and reduce stress. You may need to consult with your veterinarian for behavioral advice, or to discuss mediations or supplements your pet may need to help with their anxiety.
