💖 A HUGE, heartfelt thank you to Sunshine Bertolani-Deisig! 💖 Sunshine did a phenomenal job wrangling our kiddos in horseless activities on the ground. Because of this massive help, we were able to have two horses per class today! 🐎🐎 You are an absolute rockstar, Sunshine! 🎉✨

🐴 Who knew pool noodles could teach us so much about the mechanics of a perfect turn?! 🍜🐴

Today, our riders hit the arena to master the art of the independent seat. We dialed in our foundational walk and halt transitions, and then unlocked the ultimate equestrian toolkit—learning how a rider's hands, head, legs, and seat must work in perfect harmony to guide a horse.

🧭✨To drill the biomechanics without losing focus, our unmounted students took the reins of our "high-performance" pool noodle horses.

They navigated precise steering patterns, breaking down complex equitation concepts:
👁️ Visual Tracking & Planning: Using peripheral vision to map out a line and look through a turn before riding into it.🧘 The Hidden Aid: Discovering how minor body asymmetry—like an unconsciously dropped shoulder or a collapsed hip—shifts our weight distribution and sends a conflicting cue that steers a horse off a straight line.

Connecting rider biomechanics to the horse’s response is a major milestone. Everyone rode with purpose today—fantastic work, team! 🚀👏

🐴 Word of the Day: Transitions! 🐴

Most of our students focused heavily on walk-and-halt transitions. While it sounds simple, practicing these precise changes is incredibly important for building a balanced rider and a responsive horse. It teaches riders how to use their core and seat for clear communication, ensuring the horse stays attentive and balanced.

Our advanced riders really stepped up the challenge! We had two first graders and a kindergartener practicing complex transition sequences through the walk, trot, lope, and halt, as well as changing across the diagonal.

Meanwhile, our middle school students took on full responsibility today. They caught, groomed, and tacked up their horses entirely on their own before riding together in a group lesson focused on walking, halting, and changing direction.

We are so proud of everyone's focus and hard work today! Great job, riders!🤠✨

We love having a small group of middle schoolers where we can dive deep into special topics! Today, Dr. Rachel Plympton came out to Eagle Nest NM Elementary/Middle School, giving our students an incredible hands-on vet science lesson. 🔬🐴

The students walked through the complete scientific method to check our herd for parasites:

Gathered f***l samples from each horse

Processed and prepared the slides using precise laboratory steps

Analyzed their findings under the microscope

Because our students are exploring how global shifts affect our equine program, we used this lab to study how climate change directly impacts parasite cycles. Rising winter temperatures and changing rainfall patterns mean that parasites can survive longer in pastures and spread more unpredictably.

Understanding these changing environmental factors helps us adapt our herd management and keep our horses healthy! 🌡️📈

The best news of today's lab? Every single one of our horses tested completely worm-free!

🐴 Teamwork makes the dream work!

Today, our students partnered up to practice leading, mounting, and dismounting in a fun horsey relay race!

Today also marked Maggie’s first official day with our students, and she was absolutely perfect in every way. We are so proud of her! 🌟

A huge thank you to Sunshine Bertolani-Deisig for volunteering her time today and giving our students such a special, memorable equine experience! We appreciate YOU! 💙

What a phenomenal first day of school-day horsemanship at Eagle Nest NM Elementary/Middle School! 🐴🎒🔥

There is nothing quite like watching our students trade their desks for the barn during the school day. Setting a rock-solid foundation of safety and herd literacy is everything, and this elementary crew absolutely crushed it!

Here is how today's junior horseman checklist went down:
The "Equine Handshake": Reading the horse's expression and mastering the proper approach to establish a safe, mutual introduction.
Spatial Awareness & Blind Spots: Navigating carefully around the horses while staying completely clear of their kick zones and blind spots.
Prey Animal Psychology: Discovering how horses process sounds and movement, and why respecting their flight zone "bubble" keeps everyone safe.
Handler Mechanics & Maneuvers: Practicing proper hand placement on the lead rope—never looping it—and safely managing the horse through crisp starts, stops, and controlled turns.Good job to all our students!

You brought the perfect mix of high energy, listening ears, and deep respect for the herd. We are so proud of our future equestrians! 🏆🙌

🎉 The countdown is officially OVER! 🐴

✨ Tomorrow marks the start of our incredible hands-on equine experiences for our Eagle Nest Elementary classes! 🦅🏫

We are bursting with excitement! 🙌 Big shoutout to the Moreno Valley Angels thanks to their support we received an amazing grant, we are now using the Horse Sense Learning Curriculum to take our lessons to the next level! 📚

🐴✨ A BIG SMALL-TOWN SHOUTOUT! ✨

Neighbors helping neighbors is what makes our community so special, and today we want to shine a massive spotlight on one of our favorite behind-the-scenes heroes: Martys Service Tech ! 🛠️🚚

One of our students’ parents has been donating his time, heavy equipment, and huge heart to haul away our equine manure every few months. Let’s face it—taking care of horses comes with a lot of cleanup! 💩🚜

This incredible support does so much for our herd and our home:
🪰 Happy Horses: Keeping the manure moving means keeping flies down and our barns sparkling clean!
🌱 Healthy Planet: Proper waste management keeps our local soil and water safe from runoff, turning a big mess into positive environmental care!
🤠 True Stewardship: Our students get hands-on lessons in what it really means to respect livestock and protect our land.
