🦎 SUCCESSFUL REUNIFICATION 🦎

After several weeks of reported sightings and multiple attempts to pinpoint its location, an escaped Asian Water Monitor has been safely captured and reunited with its owner.

Our Animal Control Officers responded to assist alongside the owner and the Newbern Police Department after a confirmed sighting was reported. Thanks to the cooperation and persistence of everyone involved, the monitor was safely secured without injury.

We know many people in the community have been following this story and reporting sightings. Those calls helped narrow down the area and ultimately played a role in bringing this situation to a successful conclusion.

A special thank you to everyone involved for working together to ensure a safe outcome for both the animal and the community.

Last night, many community members gathered to discuss Dyer County’s stray dog problem. While there were a lot of opinions and ideas shared, one thing became very clear:

There is no quick fix.

The stray animal crisis wasn’t created overnight, and it won’t be solved overnight.

Topics discussed included enforcement, spay/neuter efforts, ordinances, responsible pet ownership, and accountability. All of these conversations are important, and we look forward to continuing them.

What we do know is this:

🐾 Mass euthanasia does not solve the problem.

🐾 One organization cannot solve the problem alone.

🐾 The solution will require community involvement, responsible pet ownership, enforcement, rescue partnerships, spay/neuter efforts, and long-term commitment.

While these discussions continue, the Dyersburg-Dyer County Humane Society will keep doing what we’ve always done—helping animals.

This flyer shows just a portion of the work that has been done over the last 18 months:

❤️ 786 animals taken in

❤️ 837 total outcomes

❤️ 336 adoptions

❤️ 199 rescue transfers

❤️ 170 returned to owners

We are a shelter designed for approximately 45 animals and are currently caring for more than 80.

We aren’t sharing these numbers for praise. We’re sharing them because facts matter, and understanding the scope of the problem is the first step toward finding real solutions.

Thank you to everyone who attended the meeting, asked questions, shared ideas, and cares about the future of animal welfare in Dyer County.

🚨 TEMPORARY FOSTER NEEDED ASAP FOR GINGER 🚨

This sweet senior girl needs our help.

Ginger is approximately 13-14 years old and is currently in our care while a court case is being resolved. We are hopeful that she may ultimately be reunited with her owner, but right now, we need a temporary foster home to help her through this difficult time.

Ginger is struggling in the shelter environment. At her age, being confined to a kennel is taking a toll on her. We are concerned she may have bone cancer and other age-related health issues, and she would be much more comfortable in a quiet home where she can rest, move around freely, and enjoy some love and attention.

🐾 This would be a TEMPORARY foster placement.
🐾 We will explain the situation in detail to any approved foster.
🐾 We are simply trying to do what is best for Ginger while legal matters are being worked through.

Time is of the essence. Ginger needs out of the shelter as soon as possible.

🐾 PARVO IS PREVENTABLE. VACCINATION SAVES LIVES. 🐾

Parvo is one of the most serious diseases we see in puppies, but it’s also one of the most preventable.

Many people don’t realize that Parvo can survive in the environment for months—even years—and puppies can be exposed through contaminated ground, surfaces, and areas where infected dogs have been.

At the Dyersburg-Dyer County Humane Society, puppies suspected of having Parvo are immediately isolated and started on supportive care. One of the most important parts of treatment is hydration, and our staff works hard to give every puppy the best chance possible.

But the reality is this:

💉 The best treatment is prevention.

Keeping your puppy up to date on vaccinations is the safest and most effective way to protect them from this devastating virus.

🌞 UPDATE ON TODAY’S ADOPTION EVENT 🌞

Mother Nature had other plans for us today! Our tent decided it wanted to go on an adventure of its own, and with the heat rising, we have decided to pack up early and get our dogs back to the shelter where they can stay cool and comfortable. 🐾

The good news? Our $50 adoption special is STILL happening! 🎉
