People give me headaches sometimes with how many supplements and products people have their horses on š
Minerals, gut supplements, calming supplements, oils, hoof supplements, pre/probiotics, electrolytes⦠I could go on and on.
And donāt get me wrong ā some horses DO need extra support. But I think a lot of people are trying to bandaid a feed program that should be carrying more of the load in the first place.
Thatās one reason I swapped to Dove about 2 years ago.
Before switching, mine were on Purina Senior. Once I actually started looking into feeding rates, I realized a 1,000 lb horse in light work is recommended around 10 lbs/day WITH forage. Thatās a lot more than most people are feeding.
Meanwhile, Doveās Simplify and Magnify are generally around 5ā6 lbs/day, and Protect and OMG are closer to 2 lbs/day because theyāre more concentrated.
Within 1ā2 weeks after switching, mine already had more belly and topline starting to come in ā and I havenāt had to treat my ulcer-prone horse for ulcers since switching either.
Iām not saying every horse needs the same thing, but I DO think people overcomplicate feeding sometimes š
If anybody needs help figuring out a feeding program or deciding what might work best for their horse, feel free to message me anytime!
