Update on Gus 🤍

We’re currently at $481.49 — I’m so grateful for every single person who’s donated or shared. You’ve already helped him so much.

We got some encouraging news from the vet: the mass is not urgent, which is a huge relief. That said, I’d really like to have it removed before he’s adopted so his future family doesn’t have to worry about it.

The surgery is estimated at $700–$1,200, and we also need additional blood work (around $200). His iron levels came back low — which could be from how underweight he was — but we want to be safe and make sure nothing else is going on.

Gus is doing AMAZING otherwise. He’s gaining weight, getting stronger, and his sweet personality is really starting to shine through.

We’re also starting e-collar training this week to help with recall and give him more freedom safely, which will be huge for his confidence and future home.

Once he’s fully recovered, he will be available for adoption 🤍
He truly deserves the best forever home.

If we don’t meet the full goal for surgery, any remaining funds will go with Gus to his new home to help support his continued care.

If you’re able to donate or share, it truly means more than you know. Every bit helps us get him one step closer to a fresh start.

Thank you for being part of his story.

He’s still skinny, but wow… what a difference 34 days can make. 🐾❤️

The photo on the left was the day Gus climbed into my car. The photo on the right is today.

He has more weight to gain but seeing him 9pounds healthier is a great start in such a short amount of time.

Today’s vet visit brought so much relief:
no heart murmur, the lump is just a harmless lipoma, his ears are healed, vaccines are done, and the vet thinks he’s only 6–7 years old.

We’re still waiting on his bloodwork and f***l results, but today gave us such a deep sense of relief.

Thank you to everyone who donated, shared, checked in, and loved him from afar. You helped turn fear into hope for this sweet boy, and I will never forget that.

Update on Gus 🐾

First, I just want to say thank you again to everyone who has donated, shared, and sent kind messages about Gus. The support has truly been overwhelming and means more than I can put into words.

Gus had his vet visit today and we learned a little more about what he’s been dealing with.

He does have a pretty significant double ear infection, which we’ve started treating right away with medication. Hopefully this will bring him some relief quickly.

The vet also detected a small heart murmur. Because of that, we plan to do chest X-rays at his 3-week recheck appointment when we go back to check on his ears.

The good news is that his eyes look great and his teeth look great. The vet actually agreed they appear to have been recently professionally cleaned, which supports our feeling that Gus was cared for at some point.

He does have some arthritis, which isn’t unusual for a middle-aged dog, so we’ve started him on glucosamine and probiotics to help support his joints and digestion while he continues gaining strength.

There is also a lump on his body that the vet believes is most likely either a lipoma (fatty lump) or a sarcoma. To know for sure, we’ll do a needle aspirate at his 3-week checkup.

The good news is that Gus has already gained 5 pounds since being in my care, which is a great sign that his body is starting to recover after being on his own for so long.

Overall, Gus handled the visit like a champ. He’s eating well, resting, and slowly starting to settle in.

Thank you all again for helping give this sweet boy a chance to heal. I’ll continue to share updates as we learn more. ❤️

Gus has been settling in and showing us more of his sweet personality every day. Unfortunately, I found that he has a pretty severe double ear infection, likely from being outside and untreated for so long.

He’ll need medication and follow-up care to get comfortable again. Several people asked if they could help with his recovery, so I created a GoFundMe for anyone who would like to contribute.

Please know sharing his story helps just as much. Thank you for supporting Gus and helping him get back to feeling good again. 🐾❤️

Little update on “rescue dog” now Gus 💙
This sweet boy continues to impress me every day. His recall is already getting better, he knows sit and shake, and he hasn’t had a single accident — clearly a house-trained gentleman. His teeth look amazing and he even let me trim his nails without a leash and without a fuss.
Whoever raised him at some point spent time with him. He’s such a good boy. Still keeping an eye out for an owner while we help him recover.
