Reasons horses love Easycare’s glue on composite shoes:
- No nails required
- Shock absorbing comfort
- Built in caudal support to prevent and heal caudal failure
- Applied with the hoof on the ground (expansion) vs applied with foot in the air (contraction) which allows the hoof to expand without being restricted (think stuck in a cast) causing atrophy to the soft structures of the hoof, crushed heels, contracted heels, caudal failure.

This horse was not comfortable and received coffin joint injections to try and help it. The client reached out to me and we pulled the metal shoes and put in boots and pads and he was immediately more comfortable. No wedges were applied to help his angles; just trimming to what he needed. Ultimately, I did put easycare speeds (glue on composites) on to help build sole depth and because boots are a pain in the butt for barn management etc. The horse stayed sound and no longer needed coffin joint injections. Positive coffin bone angles make a difference in comfort. You can see how it creates more space at the extensor process of the coffin bone.

The 1st 2 photos are before and after trim of Neo soon after I got him off the track. I have put shoes with wedges on last year but haven’t this year mostly due to time. Today I played with surefoot slant pads and he wasn’t too interested in those. But notice the difference in angle when he chooses and is able to dig his toe in the soft footing. At 20, he has a straight cannon bone. Above that, he camps under more often than not. His hamstrings are very tight and he has a difficult time standing for trims on the hind feet. In the soft footing when he can better alignment, he is more comfortable. To wedge or not to wedge is the question. I think it would really help loosen up the muscles and help him grow a better heel. If I had more time to do bodywork that would help too but unfortunately I’m not consistent enough to help keep the bad pattern away.

From February 2025 to April 2026 - last years pictures were not the best angles to match and compare but you can see the digital cushion (blue lines) is more “plump” and rebuilding with caudal supporting composite shoes and boots here and there. Consistent balanced trims and diet also got rid of the event lines.

Today we tried the Easycare One shoe for the first time on this horse because she seemed to like boots with a soft pad and these shoes have a softer plastic for frog support and a bit more flexible than Easycare versa grips. She was yawning and releasing as soon as we tried them on! She walked off beautifully with an extra bounce in her step 🥰

This is interesting to me and what I have found to be true with my own horses. Horses seem to be more relaxed where there are more horses.

I’ve read about the benefits of improving plantar angles (hind feet) that can’t always be changed enough with just trimming alone. Seeing and feeling the horses comfort in person this weekend with Sara Hathaway was magical. Before injecting all the joints; how about we check their alignment (many don’t consider the hind feet!) The bodywork won’t stick if their feet aren’t right. Look at how much softer this horse is in her body and face. When we tested the wedge before gluing she was yawning and releasing for several minutes. Some horses can graduate out of the wedge with bodywork to help them find better posture too.

Many people believe their horse can’t have cushings disease because “they shed out their coat.” -
There are many symptoms that come with cushings and it has been found in horses as young as 7 years old.

Of my clients with recurrently abcesses or tender feet after a trim or sudden lack of hoof quality; I always encourage them to test for cushings. I have been correct 100% of the time so far. One horse was only 9 years old and his numbers were off the chart. It doesnt just affect the feet. It suppresses the immune system; therefore their entire body.

Cushings is a tumor on the pituitary gland.

“The pituitary gland is located near the center and bottom of the brain. It produces a number of critical hormones that control many parts of the body, including several other endocrine glands. For this reason, it is sometimes called a “master gland.” Because large numbers of hormones are produced by the pituitary, a variety of different conditions can be caused by pituitary disease or tumors. The specific illness and signs depend on the cause and the area of the pituitary gland that is affected.” - Merckvetmanual.

“Affected horses often have a history of impaired or delayed healing of wounds, which is a result of immune suppression associated with the disease.”

Pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID), commonly known as Cushing's disease, is one of the most common endocrine disorders in horses and ponies. It most commonly affects older horses (with the average horse age being approximately 20 years of age), however it has been reported in horses as you...
