As the weather warms up, ticks become more active—and that means a higher risk of Lyme disease for your pets.

🦠 Lyme disease is spread through the bite of infected ticks and can affect both dogs and (less commonly) cats.

⚠️ Signs to Watch For:
Limping or lameness that may shift between legs
Fever
Lethargy
Swollen joints
Loss of appetite

🛡️ Prevention is Key:
✔️ Use year-round tick prevention
✔️ Check your pets daily, especially after being outdoors
✔️ Keep grass and brush trimmed
✔️ Ask about Lyme vaccination for dogs

Early detection and prevention can make all the difference in keeping your pets healthy and active!

In Oklahoma and Texas, our warmer climate gives mares a slightly longer natural breeding window compared to northern regions.

✔️ Typical Breeding Season: March – August (sometimes into early fall)
✔️ Peak Fertility: April – June
✔️ Cycle Length: ~21 days
✔️ Heat (Estrus): 5–7 days

🌱 Because spring arrives earlier in the south, mares often begin cycling sooner—making March breeding more successful than in colder climates.

🐎 Breeding in early spring means foals arrive February–April the following year, which is ideal for growth, pasture access, and performance timelines.

💡 Pro Tip: Many breeders use artificial lighting starting in December/January to bring mares into cycle even earlier for January/February foals.

Planning a breeding? We can help with exams, timing, and reproductive management!

🐴 Is Your Horse on the Right Deworming Schedule?

Keeping your horse healthy starts from the inside out! Strategic deworming is key to preventing parasite resistance and protecting your horse’s overall wellness.

✔️ Spring & Fall: F***l egg count testing to determine parasite load
✔️ Targeted Deworming: Based on results—not a one-size-fits-all approach
✔️ Rotate Pastures & Remove Manure: Helps reduce reinfection
✔️ Work with Your Veterinarian: Every horse and farm is different!

Gone are the days of routine monthly deworming—smart, targeted programs are the new gold standard 🏆
