The Lakeshore Humane Society is a non-profit, all volunteer organization, dedicated to helping protect the welfare of all animals and providing humane education to our community. The organization was established in 1980 under the name of The Dunkirk Humane Society, later renamed as we expanded our area of service to include the entire north end of Chautauqua County. We strive to get funding throug

h donations and grants to support our spay/neuter assistance program and to help us pay for operating costs, primarily veterinary bills. As always, we are very thankful to our generous sponsors who enable us to continue our work in the community. All money raised or donated stays in our community and helps animals in need. Animals in the care of The Lakeshore Humane Society are housed at our adoption center at 431 East Chestnut Street in Dunkirk. Space restricts the number of animals in our care at any given time it does enables us to get to know each animal better, leading to more successful pairings with new owners. All animals leaving our care must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption and owners are required to sign an adoption contract detailing our standards of care for their new pet. Animals that are deemed too young to be altered are provided with a voucher that covers the cost of surgery. A reasonable donation is required at the time of adoption. Anyone interested in bettering the welfare of animals is welcome to join our organization. There are many ways you can help the animals and us. We meet the third Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in our adoption center located at 431 E. Chestnut Street, Dunkirk, NY. Our phone number is: 716-672-1991. Our mail address is 431 E. We are going to have many adoption days throughout the year when we will be open on different Saturdays for people to come , look, meet and adopt their four-legged family member. Also, we will be holding fundraisers at the center so that you may visit the animals and adopt then, too.

Tiger! Biggest bestest lap cat ever!!💞💞. Tiger is around 3 years old, 19 lbs of love, a huge hit and popular cat at LHS. He is still waiting on his furever home.. His favorite pastime is sitting in your lap and snuggling close. He adores people! Come meet him this weekend!! Such a distinguished gentleman! This handsome guy is named Capone. Capone is a 11yr old, 70lb mixed breed. Don’t let his age fool you, he has plenty of pep left in his step. He found himself at LHS when his owner could no longer care for him. Capone is a friendly, sweet guy. He is well behaved and walks nicely on a leash. He also rides well the car. Capone seems to like the other dogs here at LHS. He would be a great dog for a retired person or couple. If you would like to give Capone a place to spend his golden years, please fill out our online application or stop in during open hours. Wednesdays 6-8pm and Saturdays 12-3pm.

Meet Alex! Alex is a handsome 1yr old mix breed pup. He is friendly, fun loving and energetic. Alex is sometimes selective with his dog friends. Like all LHS dogs, he would need to do a meet and greet with any potential dog siblings to make sure it’s the perfect fit for everyone. We are recommending older kids due to his exuberance. He may accidentally knock little ones down. Alex will need some work on leash walking with and basic commands. His new owner should have the time , patience and energy to dedicate to him. Alex would be a great companion for an active owner. He would make the best walking or running partner.
