Miel LLC Walters Family Apiary, Miel Duluth, Honey and Beeswax Products She took on the business side of things when Sharilyn passed in January of 2022.

Mark and Sharilyn Walters along with Zach, their son, began expanding their beekeeping hobby into a business in 2007. In addition to the best honey in the Northland, they have developed lotions, lip balms and soaps using the beeswax. Their daughter Vanessa joined in 2020, after moving back to Duluth, to help keep up with all the production. These products use only the best ingredients available, plus beeswax and are 100% natural.

If you've got a pup, their paws are feeling the chill start to set in too. Winter will be rough on dog feet. Icy sidewalks, dry air, and the salt on our roads can leave paw pads cracked, chapped, and sore. A little protection goes a long way and it's time to stock up!

Good morning! Today marks a special day at Duluth Farmerā€™s Market. In honor of Customer Appreciation Day, we have a couple of delightful treats available. First come, first served! Happy Friday! Here's a bit of bee science that still amazes us: in parts of Africa, farmers protect their crops from elephants usingā€¦ bees.

Elephants are enormous and nearly fearless, but they're genuinely wary of honeybees. A swarm can sting the sensitive skin around their eyes, ears, and trunk. So researchers started building "beehive fences" consisting of rows of hives strung along a wire around a field. When an elephant bumps the wire, the hives swing, the bees buzz out, and the elephants back off. The crops stay safe, the elephants are unharmed, and the farmers can keep farming! From pollinating a third of our food to standing up to the largest land animal on earth, bees really do run the show. It's one of our favorite reminders that these tiny insects punch so far above their weight!
