Meet our Duluth Whiskey Project litter! 🥃🐾

These adorable pups will be 8 weeks old on Thursday and are ready to start searching for their forever families! Come meet them at Duluth Whiskey Project on Thursday, June 4th from 3pm to 7pm.

While we don’t know exactly what breeds make up this litter, their mom is a cattle dog mix who came to us from Bemidji. Based on mom’s size and what we’re seeing so far, we estimate these puppies may grow to be around 50 pounds or so full grown, though cannot guarantee that.

They are sweet, playful, and full of personality, and we’d love for you to stop by the event and meet them. As always, approved applications are required before adoption, but events are a great opportunity to get to know the puppies and chat with our volunteers.

A couple new photos of our boy Orville still looking for a home! He is doing really well with his current foster!

Orville is an approximately 5–8 year old orange gentleman looking for a home to call his own. He can be a little shy when meeting new people, but once he feels safe and comfortable, his sweet personality starts to shine through. Orville absolutely loves human affection and will happily soak up pets and attention from his trusted people.

Like many cats, he just needs a little time to decompress, build trust, and settle into his new environment before being introduced to other cats. Once he’s comfortable, his soft little purr is guaranteed to melt your heart. 🧡

Meet Belize! 🐾

Belize is a smart, happy girl looking for her forever family! She is both house trained and crate trained, gets along great with other dogs, and has done well with cats, though she can get a little excited when meeting them. Belize has been around lots of kids and a busy household and has thrived in the chaos.

She’s a quick learner who already knows a few commands and is eager to keep learning. Whether she’s playing with friends or hanging out with her people, Belize is ready to be part of the family.

If you’re looking for a fun, intelligent, and loving companion, Belize might be your perfect match! ❤️🐶

Belize is also a candidate for foster or a trial period.

Patella “Ella”! 🐾

Ella from our Bones Litter is now 10 weeks old and soaking up all the important puppy lessons in her foster home! She’s working hard on potty training, crate training, and learning basic commands like sit.

Her mom, a brindle mixed breed, came to rescue as a stray from Bemidji and gave birth just a few days after arriving safely in our care. We are not for sure what breeds she is, but potentially pitty/boxer/pyrenees.

Ella is a sweet, happy puppy who loves attention and is ready to find a family of her own. Like all puppies, she will need continued training, socialization, and patience as she grows, but she’s off to a fantastic start.

If you’re looking for a loving companion to grow alongside your family, Ella may be the perfect match. She is eagerly waiting to meet her forever family and start her next adventure. ❤️

Apply to adopt today and give this sweet girl the happy ending she deserves! 🏡🐶

Hi there! My name is Penny, and I’m a sweet little puppy who is about 9 weeks old.

My life started out a little rough and when I was just a couple weeks old, I ended up at Minneapolis Animal Care & Control. Thankfully, I found my way to a foster home, where I’ve discovered that I love pretty much everything!

I love to play, I love to cuddle, and I love cats. I’m your typical happy puppy; curious, affectionate, and excited about life.

I would do great in a home with other animals, kids, adults, or even a quieter home with just a person or two. I’m really not picky, I’m just excited to find my forever family.

If you can make room in your home for me, I’d love to cuddle up close, shower you with love, and fill your days with puppy fun.

Meet Bandit! 🖤

Bandit’s story started with PJ’s Rescue as a puppy and sometimes life takes unexpected turns so this handsome boy is back with us and spending time at Black Onyx Dog Training while he searches for the right match.

Bandit is almost 1 year old and according to a DNA test from one of his littermates, is a unique mix of Pitty, Staffy, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, and 10 other breeds. He is a smart, active, and incredibly loyal companion who thrives when given guidance and direction.

Bandit can be shy and insecure when meeting new people. He takes a little time to warm up, but once you’ve earned his trust, you’ll see a sweet and devoted side of him. While in training, we’ve been focusing on building his confidence and helping him navigate the world more comfortably.

Bandit can also come on a bit strong/high energy when meeting other dogs. However, with proper introductions and respectful boundaries, he has shown that he can do well with canine friends. He simply benefits from taking things slow rather than being thrown into social situations.

His ideal home would be one without children, or with dog-savvy children over the age of 10 who can respectfully interact with and understand his boundaries.

Bandit is not looking for a life of endless free-roaming and lounging on the couch. He enjoys having a job to do and truly shines when provided with structure, consistency, and clear expectations. The more clarity he has, the more confident and successful he becomes. He is the type of dog who wants a partner, not just a place to live.

To help set both Bandit and his future family up for success, his adopter will receive his training tools along with a training lesson to ensure everyone starts off on the right foot.

🚨 Immediate Intake Closure 🚨

Over the last few months, we have taken in a large number of animals, including many moms and litters needing immediate help. While we are incredibly grateful that we were able to step in for so many, the reality is that our vet bills have become astronomical and our foster availability is at one of the lowest points we have seen in a long time.

We currently have over 85 animals in rescue when we normally average around 45-50 at any given time.

Summer is here, many of our fosters have vacations, family plans, and schedule changes, and we simply cannot continue operating beyond our capacity without risking burnout for our volunteers and inadequate resources for the animals already in our care.

As difficult as this decision is, PJ’s Rescue will be closing intake immediately except for true emergencies. This pause will allow us to focus on the animals currently depending on us while we work to stabilize our foster network and financial resources.

We hate having to say no. Every volunteer here wishes we could help every animal that needs us. But responsible rescue also means recognizing when we need to pause, regroup, and ensure the animals already in our care continue receiving the care they deserve.

We are currently working on reconciling outstanding balances with our partner veterinarians and will be posting donation opportunities and medical fundraisers in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, one of the most impactful ways you can help is by adopting, fostering, donating, or simply sharing our posts. Every share helps our animals reach potential adopters and creates much-needed space within rescue. Check out some of our animals who have been waiting the longest below!

Thank you to everyone who continues supporting PJ’s Rescue, our fosters, volunteers, adopters, veterinary partners, and community. We truly could not do this without you.

Meet Suzie ✨

Suzie is an adorable little Shih Tzu estimated to be around 5–7 years old, and after spending the last month settling into foster care, we’ve learned she’s the kind of dog who bonds deeply with her people once she feels safe and understood.

This sweet girl loves going for walks, gets the cutest little zoomies and spins when she’s excited, and has a nice moderate energy level. She’s happiest in a quieter home where life is predictable and calm. Suzie is looking for someone who is home often and willing to give her the patience and reassurance she needs while continuing to build trust.

She prefers having her person nearby when outside and likes companionship over independence. Suzie does not enjoy closed kennels, but the good news is she really doesn’t need one. She’s content simply hanging out near her people.

Other dogs may be okay as long as they respect her space and don’t expect her to play. She has shown some interest in toys and exploring, but she’s more of a quiet companion than a social butterfly. Cats are likely not a good fit for her.

Suzie may take a little time to settle in, but underneath that cautious exterior is a devoted, loving little dog who just wants to feel safe and loved. If you’re looking for a loyal companion and understand that trust is earned, not rushed, Suzie could be your perfect match. ❤️

13 lbs of love… and adorable little excited circles included.

Meet Miss Lexus! 👑

Lexus is a sweet, gentle soul who takes the "slow and steady" approach to new people. While she can be a bit shy and nervous at first, she is entirely worth the patience. Once she knows she is safe, her true colors shine, and you’ll get to see just how loyal and loving she really is. Because of this, multiple meet & greets may be necessary.

Lexus is already house and crate trained. She loves her current foster family that consists of men, women, and children, and she is friendly with both other dogs and cats. She truly is the ultimate all-around companion.

While she is content in her crate during the day, she prefers to snooze right by your side in bed at night.
If you have a little patience to spare and a spot on your mattress to share, Lexus might just be your perfect match! 💜
