To all our fellow veterinarians out there….it’s Day 2 of National Veterinary Technician Week. Did you bring your techs a puppy?

🐾💉 HAPPY NATIONAL VETERINARY TECHNICIAN WEEK! 🩺🐶🐱

Behind every happy tail wag, every tiny paw print, and every successful vet visit is a veterinary technician who gives their whole heart to the job! ❤️

Our vet techs are a little bit of everything…

🐾 Professional puppy snugglers 🥹

🐱 Expert cat negotiators (even with the spicy ones 🌶️)

💉 Masters of multitasking

🩺 Animal nurses, advocates, and comforters

💩 Occasionally covered in things we’d rather not talk about… 😂

❤️ And most importantly, the people who treat your pets like their own!

From early mornings and hectic appointments to emergency situations and those extra-special patients who keep us on our toes, our veterinary technicians show up every day with compassion, dedication, and a whole lot of patience!

This week, we’re giving a HUGE shoutout to the incredible vet techs who help keep our clinic running and our patients happy and healthy! 🐕🐈💕

We couldn’t do what we do without you! 🐾❤️

👇 Help us show our amazing vet techs some love! Drop a ❤️ in the comments or share a special experience you’ve had with our team!

For Pet Obesity Awareness Day

🐾 A Little Extra Fluff or a Little Too Much Stuff? 🐾

🐶🐱 Happy National Pet Obesity Awareness Day! 💕

We all love a chunky kitty or a pup with a little extra wiggle, but those extra pounds aren’t always as cute as they seem! 🐕🐈

Just like us, our furry friends need a healthy balance of nutrition and exercise to live their happiest, healthiest lives! ❤️

⚖️ Did you know? Even a few extra pounds can put added stress on your pet’s joints, heart, and overall health!

Here are a few ways to keep those tails wagging and whiskers twitching:

🐾 Measure those meals! A little extra kibble adds up faster than you think.

🦴 Easy on the treats! We know those puppy-dog eyes are hard to resist! 👀

🎾 Keep them moving! Walks, playtime, and enrichment activities help keep pets active.

🩺 Schedule a weight check! Your veterinary team can help determine your pet’s ideal weight and develop a healthy plan.

💕 Remember: A healthy pet is a happy pet, and sometimes loving them means saying no to that extra treat!

📸 Now we want to see your furry friends! Drop a picture of your pet in the comments! Bonus points if they’re giving you their best “But Mom, I’m STARVING!” face! 😂🐾

NEW VETERINARIAN COMES TO HERMANTOWN! Hermantown Veterinary Services is thrilled to announce the addition of Dr. Kelly Straka to our team. Dr. Straka brings the strength of one of Veterinary Medicine's most unique backgrounds to serve patients in the Twin Ports. Dr. Straka has developed extensive experience caring for multiple species throughout her career; from wildlife to domestic pets and livestock. She has most recently served as the Director of Fish and Wildlife for the State of Minnesota, as has led wildlife health operations and programs in both Michigan and Missouri. She earned her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and master's degree in public health from the University of Minnesota in 2012 and 2014. She has a passion for hunting dogs and is excited to once again be providing direct patient care through H.V.S. Dr. Kelly and her husband Tom reside in Proctor on their hobby farm with their two sons Dylan and Charlie. The Straka family are also dedicated volunteers and supporters of multiple Conservation organizations, as well as youth athletics. They make a tremendous addition to our Veterinary Community. She begins seeing patients on Monday, August 24th. Give us a call at 218-349-5640 to schedule an appointment with Dr. Straka today!
