In case you care about my “personal life,” here’s my little blurb about the DuQuoin fire 💙

So my hometown on fire has made me think about some things. 😭

Yesterday, in my little hometown of 6K… 3 businesses on Main Street burned down. Over 30 different fire departments present and STILL fighting: thank you endlessly to them!

However it’s making me a little bit sick. This town means a lot to me in many ways. Some good, some bad.

I loved DuQuoin dearly until I was 17. That’s when I came out of the closet and life turned upside-down for awhile. I couldn’t believe the number of friends and even family members I lost… all because I liked girls instead of boys. Painful memories. I acted out for years in different ways after I felt like my hometown turned against me, I must admit. Thank goodness I’ve more sense now.

But on the other hand, I was a cheerleader for the DQ Indians football team my freshman year (2009), and we went to STATE. It STILL ranks amongst the coolest experiences I’ve ever had. I have always been proud to be a DQ NDN! Plus I grew up with my grandparents at The James Outback, now The W, always on the back of some horse or pony. I’ve ridden in the fair parade, I’ve shown horses at the fairgrounds. I’ve been your window girl/barista at Penny’s Perks too!! I’ve always been immersed in my community when I think of it. Also my father was the town’s family practitioner for decades, so his legacy lives here, and I cherish that.

And now? Now I—ME—own The Haute Dog Spa… right on Division street in no other than DuQuoin, IL. My stomping grounds. My backroads. My damn BUSINESS. The connection to DuQuoin just grows stronger.

My legacy will be built here too.

I am praying nonstop for the firefighters, businesses owners, and everyone else fighting against/affected by this devastating fire.

We, DuQuoin, will come back stronger than ever!!! I just know it ❤️🖤❤️
