🩷Decompression: The Key to Adoption Success🩷

Bringing home a new cat or kitten is exciting, but for them, it can also be overwhelming. New smells, sounds, and routines can cause stress, even in the sweetest cats. That’s why rescues strongly recommend decompression time…a quiet space and slow introductions so your new kitty can feel safe.

🏡 Decompression looks like:
✔️ Their own room or calm space
✔️ A closed door & limited access at first
✔️ Consistent food, water, litter, & hiding spots
✔️ Short, gentle interactions

Think of it as their “home base” while they settle in.

⏳ How long?
⚠️Confident cats: 3–7 days
‼️Shy cats: 2–3 weeks (or longer if needed)

Stress can cause hiding, hissing, tummy issues, or litter problems, so going slow protects your cat and your home. A single, safe room also builds confidence, prevents hiding, and helps them bond with you before meeting other pets.

🩷Patience = Love 🩷
Some cats adjust overnight. Others need time…which is totally normal. Cats who decompress are far more likely to relax, trust, and show their true personality.

Final advice: don’t rush it.
Patience now will lead to a lifetime of trust.

Elfing Around Downtown 🎄 – Holiday Fun on Dec 13, 2025

Ho ho ho... The elves are back in town! 🧝‍♂️✨ Elfing Around Downtown (formerly Elf on the Shelf) is returning to DuBois for a day of festive family fun you won't want to miss. On Saturday, December 13, from 8 AM to 4 PM, our downtown will transform into a winter wonderland filled with holiday cheer and fun activities for all ages. Bring the kids, bring the grandparents, and get ready to make magical memories in the heart of DuBois! 🎄❄️

🍳 Breakfast with the Elves (8 AM – 11 AM)

Start your day with a hearty Breakfast with the Elves at The Public House on Jared ! It's a buffet-style breakfast where you can munch on your favorites (pancakes, anyone?) alongside Santa’s little helpers:

Adults: $16.99

Kids (4–12): $8.99

Toddlers (3 & under): $5.99

Full menu is also available if the buffet isn’t your style, and reservations are recommended (though not required) to secure your spot with the elves. 🥞🎅

🔍 Elf Scavenger Hunt (FREE fun after 11 AM)

After breakfast, let the adventure begin! Downtown DuBois becomes your playground for a FREE Elf Scavenger Hunt. Grab a map or clue sheet and explore our decorated downtown to search, explore, and discover hidden elves together with your family:

Visit local shops and spots to find mischievous little elves 🗺️🔎

Work as a team to solve riddles!

Enjoy the sights and sounds of downtown decked out in holiday décor 🎁✨

This scavenger hunt is open to children ages 1-18 and completely FREE, parents are encouraged to help them little ones, so everyone can join in this elf-tastic quest!

While you're in search of the elves, be sure to stop into Winkler Gallery & Art Education Center for Letter writing to Santa (Not part of our Elf event but a wonderful addition to all the activity downtown that the kids will LOVE!!)

Turn in your forms at Parkside Community Center by 3pm - Drawing will be done that afternoon.

🎬 Festive Finale at Parkside Community Center (3-4pm)

Wrap up the excitement at the Parkside Community Center with an hour of holiday fun and a cartoon movie finale! After all that elfing around, kick back and enjoy:

Crafts & games: Holiday-themed activities and crafts to keep kids smiling and engaged 😄🎨
Settle in for a cheerful holiday music programming to end the day with laughter and cozy vibes

If you would like a 3-year rabies vaccine, you must bring proof of your last rabies vaccination.
