📚🐰 Books in the Barn is TOMORROW! 🐴🐔

What do good readers do? That’s the question we’ll be exploring this week at Books in the Barn!

We’ll talk about what strong, thoughtful readers actually do while they read—how they think, make connections, notice clues, ask questions, and make sense of a story. And, of course, we’ll do it in true barn fashion: with a good book, hands-on activities, and some furry, feathered, or four-legged friends nearby. ❤️

This isn’t just story time. It’s a real literacy experience led by a certified, seasoned teacher, designed to help kids build the skills and confidence that make them better readers.

📚🐴 BOOKS IN THE BARN — THIS THURSDAY! 🐴📚

Join us Thursday, August 27 at 2:30 PM for our LAST summer session of Books in the Barn before we shake things up for fall!

This isn’t just story time and barnyard fluff. 😉 Your child gets small-group literacy instruction led by a certified, seasoned teacher with 20+ years of experience—all while learning, moving, exploring, and connecting with our farm animals. For $20/child, it’s a pretty incredible way to spend an afternoon!

🍂 WHAT’S CHANGING THIS FALL?

Starting in September, Books in the Barn moves to WEDNESDAYS!

We’ll offer two sessions to make it easier for families to join us:

🌾 2:30–4:15 PM — A session especially well-suited for homeschoolers
🌾 4:00–5:15 PM — An additional after-school option

Whether your child needs extra literacy practice, loves books and animals, or simply thrives with hands-on learning, Books in the Barn is a fun way to build real reading skills without making learning feel like “more school.”

Today is Books in the Barn at 2:30!

Today we're getting word nerdy! We'll play morphology games that explore how word parts carry meaning—prefixes, bases, and suffixes!

We'll start with a scavenger hunt in the barn, then Penelope, our horse, will help us break words apart and discover how those little word parts can make a BIG difference.

And of course, we'll finish by cuddling up with a good book and a farm friend of choice! 🐰🐐🐢🐴

If we get enough readers, we'll even break out the parachute for some more word-powered fun!

There's a new kid in town. Meet "Pita." He's a darling buckling from the Hilker Homestead. He'll be hanging around here for some time. He sure fits in great, and it's been a joy to watch Pita and Atlas play and play and play some more together.

"If you love beautiful sunrises and sunsets while being immersed in the countryside, this place is ideal. The balcony off the primary bedroom gives you a front-row seat to the sunset at the end of the day, while the back deck overlooks the farm and is the perfect spot to watch the sun rise in the morning. The property was clean, organized, and very well kept, and the hosts were responsive, helpful, and easy to communicate with. The icing on the cake was definitely the animals! Being surrounded by a working farm with cows, horses, chickens, and goats made the stay even more special and added so much to the experience. It was peaceful, beautiful, and exactly the kind of place where you can slow down and enjoy the surroundings. Baseball field is only 8 mins away. We would definitely stay here again!"
