Welcome to another episode of 🔥FERAL FRIDAY 🔥

“But she’s showing heat!”

Cool.

Her ovaries would like to remind everyone that THEY are actually in charge here. 😂

A mare showing heat tells me she's hormonally receptive to a stallion. It does NOT tell me that she has a mature follicle ready to ovulate, what her uterus looks like, whether she has already ovulated, or whether breeding her today makes a damn bit of sense.

That’s what the ultrasound is for.

I’ve seen mares act like the biggest hussies on the property and not be remotely ready to breed. I’ve also seen mares give us almost NOTHING behaviorally while quietly growing exactly the follicle we’ve been waiting for.

This is why we manage the MARE in front of us instead of breeding based solely on behavior.

Her behavior gives us information.

Her reproductive tract gives us the answer.

And unfortunately, ovaries remain completely unwilling to accept suggestions from the humans paying the breeding bill.

This young guy is already giving us plenty to talk about.

Strait Up Metallic is a 2023 AQHA/APHA/FQHA gray stallion and he's already an AQHA World Show Qualifier AND AQHA point earner.

He's by Metallic Cattack, LTE $30,000+, and out of Strait Tiki by Six Pounds Sterling.

At only three years old, he's already out proving himself while building the resume that will eventually back up his breeding career. THAT is something I like to see in a young stallion.

He's also 8 Panel N/N and enrolled in multiple ranch horse incentives.

There's a whole lot I could talk about with The Tom Cat Jack pedigree...

He's a DIRECT son of High Brow Cat and out of Ms Pinky by Peptoboonsmal .

But honestly? One of my favorite things about him is that he's not just standing around being a stallion.

He's a RANCH HORSE.

He's gathering cattle, putting in actual days of work and proving that all that pedigree is attached to a horse that's built to be useful.

And now his first foals are hitting the ground big, straight, pretty and showing the same bone and substance their daddy has.

Oh...and he's a red roan. Because apparently we needed another reason to look at him. 😂

One of the biggest reasons I built RSAP was because I kept seeing really nice stallions whose breeding market was largely limited by geography.

Frozen semen changes that.

Your stallion can be standing in Wyoming, Iowa, Missouri, South Dakota or wherever home happens to be, and a mare owner 1,000 miles away can still have access to him without you relocating the horse or changing the way you run your breeding program.

That's what we're building with RSAP.

Frozen semen is stored here at Dry Creek QH&R in Southwest Louisiana, and I handle the promotion on this end too. I'm not interested in semen simply sitting in my tank. I want mare owners to know whose semen is IN that tank and why they might want to use it.

That means learning your stallion, following what he's doing, sharing his accomplishments, talking about his pedigree, showing off his foals and keeping his name circulating throughout the breeding season.

For new stallions entering RSAP, storage is $30 per month and DCQH&R receives 10% of the advertised stud fee on breedings generated through RSAP. If you sell the breeding completely independently of us, it's still your sale.

The goal is pretty simple. Give stallion owners access to another breeding market and give mare owners access to stallions they might never have considered because they were halfway across the country.

RSAP is still recruiting for the 2027 breeding season, and I'm really excited about how this lineup is taking shape
