Some horses are just different. ❤️
It's hard to put into words, but every once in a while, you meet a horse whose soul just seems to connect with yours on a different level.
There's something about simply being in their presence that makes the whole world slow down. Life feels a little quieter, a little lighter, and somehow, a whole lot better.
Rosie is that horse for me. ❤️
I am so incredibly grateful to have this mare home and to experience her extraordinary heart, willingness, and personality every single day.
One of my favorite things about Rosie is that she has expectations of you. Not just as a rider, but as a person.
If you're having a bad day, she'd prefer you leave that attitude and all your worries at the gate before you ever put her halter on. 🤣 And honestly, that makes me laugh every time.
But that's part of what makes her so special.
She expects you to show up. To be present. To listen. To respect her as much as you expect her to respect you.
And when you do? She will give you every ounce of heart and try she has.
She's just as willing to be your teacher as she is your student. And some of her greatest lessons have absolutely nothing to do with horses.
This summer, shortly after Rosie came home, Lainee was riding her in the arena and trying to get her into a lope. Lainee doesn't ride often and after several unsuccessful attempts, she told me she wanted to stop for a minute.
I told her that was perfectly fine.
She sat quietly in the center of the arena for a moment. Then she leaned forward, wrapped her arms around Rosie's neck, and just stayed there for a bit.
When she finally sat back up, she looked at me and said,
**"Mom, Rosie is telling me I just need to believe in myself."** ❤️
I smiled and said, "Okay, then go try again."
And sure enough, off they went. Loping beautiful circles together.
I don't think I'll ever forget that moment.
Because what Lainee needed in that moment wasn't another riding instruction. She needed a little confidence, a little trust, and the belief that she was capable.
And somehow, in the quiet space between a little girl and a horse, she found exactly that.
**That's the kind of teacher Rosie is.**
She reminds me that connection comes before communication. That respect is a two-way street. That sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is quiet our minds, soften our expectations, and truly listen.
And perhaps my favorite lesson of all?
Sometimes we already have everything we need inside of us. We just need someone to remind us to believe in ourselves.
How lucky are we to have horses willing to teach us lessons we didn't even know we needed? ❤️🐴
Thank you, Rosie, for your enormous heart, your honesty, and all the lessons you continue to teach us. We are so lucky to love you. ❤️
**Now I want to hear your stories! ❤️**
Show me a horse that has touched your heart, changed your life, or taught you something you'll never forget.
**What's one lesson a horse has taught you that has stayed with you long after you stepped out of the saddle?**
I'd love to see your heart horses and hear the stories behind them. ❤️🐴
