Happy New Year from all of us at Hope Springs Farm!

After a year full of loss, both human and animals alike, we look to the new year with hope for health and prosperity!

The biggest takeaway from 2025 was how incredibly blessed we are to be surrounded by so many amazing people! With Doug's health trauma this year, we were blown away by the outpouring of support from our local community!

This is why it is so very important to not let your horses touch noses with others that don't belong to you! I had the sheer horror of watching two girls on horseback let their horses stop and "talk" with mine over the fence. I informed the two young women that horseman should know better!

The Equine Disease Communication Center is monitoring an outbreak of EHM that originated at the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) World Finals and Elite Barrel Race event Nov 5-9. To date, officially confirmed cases have been reported in the following states:

You often hear people say “enjoy the ride."

But if you’ve ever spent time caring for a horse, you know there’s so much more than the hour spent in the saddle.

The saying should probably closer to “enjoy long hours and hard work” or maybe “enjoy the highest highs and the lowest lows."

Sometimes you’ll feel more akin to a spiteful “enjoy heartbreak, the unpredictable, and sheer bad luck."

But if you were to say those things you would also have to say “enjoy freedom, connection, and a love impossible to explain."

So here are my alternatives …

Enjoy the privilege of getting to ride as much as the ride - the ability to swing into the saddle as much as the ability to sit it.

Enjoy the soul that enjoys you back - the simple pleasure of connection without bargain, barter, or expectation.

Enjoy the quiet. The care. The mundane as much as the extraordinary.

Be joyful in your enjoyment because joy is such a rare but free commodity.

Yes, enjoy the ride, but remember to enjoy everything that led up to it as well as the responsibility that accompanies it.

Because very rarely is it about the ride. 🤍
