✨ The Direction for Dogs website is getting a makeover! ✨ It is still a work in progress, but I couldn’t wait to share some of the updates with you!

One of my biggest goals was to make the website not just a place to find information, but a place where you can get a better feel for my training style, who I am, and what really matters to me: helping dogs and their people build a better life together.

I also started reorganizing the Group Classes section. Instead of listing everything on one page, you can now browse by category to more easily find what you are looking for. I am also creating individual pages for each course, starting with Puppy FUNdamentals.

Now, go check out the website and please let me know what you think. While I am still working on it, your feedback would be incredibly helpful as I continue making Direction for Dogs the best it can be!

🎓 Huge congrats to these puppies for graduating from the Puppy Fundamentals course AND earning their AKC Puppy S.T.A.R. titles! ⭐️

S.T.A.R = Socialization, Training, Activity, and Responsible owner. The classes are less about learning commands and more about helping owners understand puppy behavior and build real communication and connection with their pup, so they grow up with good manners from the very start.

These families put in the work, showed up week after week, and it shows in their progress. I am extremely proud of them. This is just the beginning. 💛

It takes a village to raise a dog!

You need that friend who listens when you say, "You will NEVER believe what my dog did today!" 😂

The friend that doesn't judge you when your dog has embarrassed you in public. The one who celebrates the little victories, shares training struggles, and always has your back.

Raising and training a dog isn't always easy, but it is a whole lot better when you have people in your corner.

🚨 PUPPY OWNERS, the puppy stage goes by quickly so focus on these 3 important things now:

1. SOCIALIZATION - the right way!
It is not about meeting every person or playing with every dog. Help your puppy be exposed (and not always interacting) to the world in positive ways.

2. MANNERS - start good habits now!
If jumping is allowed now, it may be a difficult habit to break when they are older. Start teaching manners early like how to settle calmly in their crate.

3. CONNECTION - build a strong bond!
Have fun together, enjoy mental activities, learn how to support your puppy, and become the pet parent your dog trusts and respects.

I had the opportunity to be a temporary dog foster again this past weekend. I did it because volunteering is important to me. I wanted to give back to my community and help a dog in need.

What I did not expect was how much a little puppy would give back to me. He reminded me...

🐾To disconnect and be present in the moment because he needed my undivided attention.
🐾That snuggles and kisses can recharge your heart and batteries.
🐾To celebrate little victories like when he learned house training and crate training.
🐾Watching a puppy learn, play, communicate, and experience the world can teach you so much and even make me a better trainer.
🐾And sometimes, even after only a short time, saying goodbye can bring tears to your eyes.

I was supposed to be helping him, but it turns out that he helped me too. He truly is such a good boy, and I will miss him.

Does your dog know the difference between "Drop It" and "Leave It?" More importantly, will they listen when it really matters?

We worked on these important real world skills during tonight's PACK WALK CLUB off the beaten path in the woods. We also practiced calmly passing other dogs and even spotted some deer! The more we practice in different places and around different distractions, the more prepared our dogs will be when we really need those skills.
