Today, we’re celebrating all the moms — the pet moms, the human moms, the foster moms, the clinic moms, and the women who care for every pet and person like their own. 💐🐾

At the heart of veterinary medicine is compassion, and we are so grateful for the mothers and mother figures who bring comfort, strength, and kindness to both pets and people every single day.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at 4 Paws Imaging Centers! 💙

Gallbladder Mucocele — The Role of Ultrasound

A gallbladder mucocele occurs when thick, sludge-like bile builds up and fills the gallbladder instead of flowing normally.

⚠️ The risk:
As pressure builds, the gallbladder can rupture, leaking bile into the abdomen and causing a severe, life-threatening infection that requires emergency surgery.

🔍 Why imaging matters:
Abdominal ultrasound is the best way to diagnose a mucocele. It allows us to see the characteristic “organized” material inside the gallbladder and assess the wall for signs of stress or impending rupture.

✨ The goal:
Identify these cases before rupture, when treatment options are safer and outcomes are significantly better.

Ultrasound saves critical time—and can save lives. Our STAT turnaround time option allows pet parents to receive results sooner, with reports sent to their primary veterinarian within 2-4 hours.

Why does your pet need a repeat echocardiogram? 🫀🐾

If your dog or cat has been diagnosed with heart disease, or is being monitored for it, your cardiologist may recommend rechecking their echo every year (or sometimes even sooner). And there’s a very important reason why.

Heart conditions in pets can **change over time**, even if your pet seems completely normal at home.

Regular echocardiograms makes it easier for your vet to:
✨ Monitor for progression or improvement of heart disease
✨ Detect subtle changes *before* symptoms appear
✨ Adjust medications to keep your pet stable and comfortable
✨ Ensure they're providing the most accurate, up-to-date care plan

Many pets with heart disease show **no outward signs** until the condition has advanced, which is why these rechecks are so important.

Think of it as staying one step ahead, helping your pet live a longer, happier, and more comfortable life. 💛

If your pet is due for a recheck, we’re here to help every step of the way!

Ever wonder why we ask that your pet comes in with a **full bladder** for their abdominal ultrasound? 🐾

It’s not just a random request—it actually makes a *big* difference in the quality and accuracy of the exam.

A full bladder acts like a natural window, allowing us to:
✨ Clearly visualize the bladder wall and measure its thickness
✨ Better evaluate the contents inside the bladder (such as sediment, stones, or abnormalities)
✨ Improve imaging of nearby organs by creating contrast and space in the abdomen

When the bladder is empty, the walls can appear thicker or harder to assess, and may affect the imaging interpretation.

We know it can take a little planning (and maybe holding off on that last potty break!), but it truly helps us provide the most thorough and accurate care for your dog or cat. 💛

Hello Spring! Even though the weather has been a bit temperamental, sunshine and warmer days are getting close. With that said, this is your friendly reminder to keep pets up to date on their heartworm prevention. While it is recommended year round, it is especially important in the warmer months as the mosquitos start to emerge.

Below is a video of a dog that had heartworms seen in his heart during an echocardiogram 😲😱

We know that bringing your pet in for veterinary care can be stressful—for both of you. 🐾

That’s why we’ve designed our outpatient imaging facilities with comfort and care in mind. We provide a calm, one-on-one experience for dogs and cats, seeing only one patient at a time to minimize anxiety and create a more relaxed environment.

Even more importantly, you never have to leave your pet’s side. Owners are welcome to stay present throughout the entire imaging process, offering reassurance and support when your pet needs it most.

Because veterinary care shouldn’t feel overwhelming—it should feel compassionate, personal, and centered around you and your pet. ❤️
