Our MISSION STATEMENT

"Give a Dog a Home Rescue is committed to saving the lives of dogs from high-risk shelters, providing them with safe, comfortable care in Maine, and matching them with loving forever homes. Our mission extends beyond rescue; we are dedicated to strengthening our community by supporting and preserving the bond between pets and their families. Recognizing the high need and importance of keeping pets and people together, we offer innovative programs such as the Feed the Need Pet Pantry, Wellness on Wheels Low-Cost Pet Services, Humans and Hounds Social Club, Let's Go for a Walk Doggy Day Out, and the upcoming Preserve and Provide Program. These initiatives enhance the well-being of both animals and people, ensuring pets can stay with their families during tough times, and fostering a compassionate and inclusive community."

If you would like to start the adoption our process is below:

Just a reminder - as it states on every animal's bio - all animals are located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. If you live 8 hours away, then you must be prepared to drive 8 hours here and then 8 hours back. This is your choice to make BEFORE completing the adoption application. Please note the rescue is run by a volunteer and is very busy. Do NOT constantly email or phone, if you need to email or call, please send just one communication and wait for someone to respond. Please ensure you have read all the information on the dog in the bio and that you understand all dogs are located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine where, if approved you are required to travel to meet the dog. Submit Application with two personal references and a vet reference. If you have never had pets and do not have a vet, we will need THREE personal references. Ensure references are people who know you and your lifestyle well. Applicant MUST inform vet and references that someone from GaDaH will be calling. As long as we are able to contact your vet and references, it takes just 1-3 days to process and hopefully approve applications. If you rent we will need an approval letter for the breed of dog you are wanting to adopt from your landlord on official letterhead paper or email. This means a letter or email, not copy of your lease! Rescue processes and hopefully approves applications. Once approved, rescue invites applicant to come to the rescue to meet your chosen dog/s, spend time with him/her and then hopefully take him/her home. We do NOT hold dogs so if you are unable to come within a week or so of submitting your application the dog will still be available for adoption to other families. For Canadian adopters, all that is needed to get them across the border into Canada is a current rabies certificate and proof of adoption, which is the adoption contract. Both of which are included in the medical file you will get when you adopt. (https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/pet-travel/by-country/pettravel-canada)

Ensure ALL Fields are filled in, if something is relevant, then put n/a or something in so it recognizes an entry. We do not recommend using a phone or iPad since these applications for some reason don't tend to come through and you will have spent a lot of time on the application for nothing as it will need to be re-done. Once we have you approved, we can schedule an appointment for you to come to meet him/her at the rescue in Sebec, Mane and then hopefully take them home to start your new life. I just have to work on an appointment basis. Please understand I run a dog rescue with a lot of dogs, this means I am not sat around waiting for the phone to ring, or able to drop everything and answer phone calls. * * * HELP NEEDED * * *

I was tagged in this post by Laura who I worked with when I was getting the precious Omani dogs.

They have recently been informed that one of their dogs that they TRUSTED someone to love and care for are wanting to have him KILLED because he is not getting along with their other dog.

I do not have any other information that is not in the post, I was just asked if I could help so I am reaching out to our amazing GaDaH People Pack to see if they would share and mayeb even consider giving this sweet, precious boy a home.

For updates, you will need to follow the Gold Coast Greyhound group.

Good morning everyone,

I have not posted for a good while and there are many reasons for that, but I wanted to give you all a brief update. I am turning comments off as I'm not going to be checking back to answer any questions just yet.

So, with the fire and having to temporary move into the shop in Dover-Foxcroft which happened to be right across from the Fire Station things were just getting incredibly over-whelming.

I couldn't run the Freeze Dried business as I was now using the commercial kitchen as a residential kitchen, I couldn't do the rescue, and I was just in a dark place a lot of the time - the emails of people wanting to give up on their dogs and expect others to take responsibility for them, the haters continued with their hate and well I just needed to get away.

So - I decided to move down south for the winter - to give me time to breathe, to grieve, to get my head clear for ideas of moving foward in Sebec.

For anyone thinking I have gone for good - don't get too excited, I will be rebuilding in Sebec, I am just not ready mentally to do it yet - my precious souls are under that rubble and it has been very hard leaving them as I feel like I have abandoned them. I know I haven't, but we can't help or control feelings like this.

I am going to be re-renting the property in Dover-Foxcroft to help pay bills, I will still be saving dogs, can't not do being in the south where the problem is everywhere.

When I get some money I will be looking at getting a well dug for the kennels as since the fire there has been no water, which is the only reason I haven't been able to use it - so hopefully in Spring I will get that done, get it cleaned up and ready for some dogs in late spring / summer.

I am looking forward to not having to battle the snow and who knows maybe I will become a snow bird and do summers in the north and winters in the south - best of both worlds :)

I have a big transition to make both mentally and of course physically, I am hoping that I can start to heal somewhat and have the mental strength to start planning for a rebuild.

Give a Dog a Home Rescue is not closing down and pictures of precious saved souls waiting for homes, I am sure will not be too far away.

If anyone needs to get hold of me - the best way is to email - I am not checking emails by the minute, hour or even day - I will get to them when I get to them, so if I don't respond for a few days or even a week, just know I am taking care of me and my surviving dogs and will respond when I am ready.

If anyone is interested in being a committed foster, let me know but think about it seriously as I do not have the kennels, or wil be there to take the dog if you suddenly change your mind.

Thank you to everyone who has given me love and support and I know you will understand.

ALWAYS Supporting others - if you have not been in the More Than Just Engraving store and met Jannet Meister, Pam and all their animals you should - they are some of the most kind hearted, generous, genuine people you will ever meet.

They have endured themselves so much through life, but they are ALWAYS helping others, supporting them in any way they can.

I appreciate not just their support, but their love and friendship and would ask everyone to make sure you stop by their amazing store in the Bangor Mall and SUPPORT THOSE that SUPPORT US AND OTHERS.

Jannet Meister does post on the More Than Just Engraving if she is going to be closed, so be sure to check out before you head out to treat yourself, your kids, or you pets to some cool things. . . and of course some Dog Beds :)

This was a video I shared in 2010 when I was in Texas. It popped up on a memory so I thought I would share it here - hopefully to educate some people and hope that they go on to educate more people.

If you cannot afford the heartworm prevention tablets, ask your vet to talk to you about Ivermectin.

Surgical removal of Heartworms in a dog - these things are not a myth and they are in Maine - because so many people now are moving to Maine and don't have to follow the restrictions that are put on rescue's.

So many people are adopting dogs from out of state and not following the rules of bringing dogs into the state.

It is because of this that heartworm is in the state of Maine.

If there are mosquito's around - get your pets on prevention!

Then, there is an oven range, chest freezer and a fridge/freezer I need to bring from the rescue down to Dover-Foxcroft.

Good morning People of the Pack - I am here asking for help.

Non Profit Rescue - Non Profit Rescue

I need to get 5 pallets of dog/cat food from the rescue in Sebec, down to our wonderful friends at The Minnis Sanctuary in Bowdoinham.

We should be able to find someone to load with the Fork Lift (If I can get someone to operate it) at the rescue in Sebec, but it will be unloaded by hand down at The Minnis Sanctuary.

The pallets range from 1500 - 1900 pounds, I don't know the exact weight of the others until they are pulled out.

So anyone with a big trailer or we can rent a U Haul. Expenses can be covered we just need to know how much $$

Since we have currently have no pupsters here at the rescue, I would ask that anyone looking for a new furry family member check out our wonderful friends at The Minnis Sanctuary, they have all ages, sizes and breeds and are well just an awesome rescue.

Support those that Support You - please share and follow and lets help them find those beautiful saved souls their forever families.

Here are some of the faces of our beloved dogs that are available to adopt into amazing homes right now!!!
We understand that some people may not want to apply to adopt a dog and you may find it intrusive, but we do it with a reason. Every soul that comes into The Minnis Sanctuary is loved, deeply! We care what their futures look like and not every person is able and willing to make sure that they get healthcare and spoiled to the point of forgetting things they’ve gone through.
We have a whole community here of people unable to adopt or foster, but are rooting for these babies, and celebrating along with us when they get adopted and find their forever homes! We need you folks EXTRA right now, because these lovebugs are so very deserving of being adopted and for whatever reasons, they are still here waiting. So whip out those fast thumbs, and get ready to share this post to help us(heck to help them)find their people!

JAZZY cat is the only animal we have here at the rescue waiting for her forever home.

All her kittie friends have been adopted and this morning the last of her puppy friends was adopted.

The senior dogs are not interested in a bouncy, happy, playful kittie and I cannot have her out of the kittie room all day as I have the door open for the dogs.

If everyone could ask everyone they know to see if they have room in their hearts and homes for this amazingly, jazzy, sassy, fun, confident, playful and incredibly affectionate kitte.

The application is at the bottom of her bio on the rescue page. I process applications when I get them, so lets see if we can find her forever family by the end of the weekend.

CAN WE DO IT ? ? ? ? I think we absolutely CAN 🤓
