It’s with a multitude of conflicting feelings I announce that as of today, Cavan Dreams Farm will close and the property passed along to new owners.

It was my dream for a long time to own a farm of my own and have my horses in my backyard, leading to the farm name of Cavan Dreams. In the last 5 years I’ve had some wonderful horses here that have each taught me something; Rhett, Prince, Duke, Fhin, Ringo, Dominic, Rize and Hershey, with of course Cavan being my constant companion. Prince and Fhin now call this land their final resting place.

Ive had some high highs ranging from a very successful start to competing in dressage and being able to tease the owners of both a Chevy 1500 and a Ram I towed out of the mud with my trusty F150. I’ve also had some low lows, like my accident resulting in fractured vertebrate and coming to terms with having to retire Cavan.

I learned so much more as a farm owner rather than just being a horse owner, and I wouldn’t trade it; it will always be a part of me, but life changes and dreams change too. It is time to move on.

So, thank you to this little plot of land that realized so many of my childhood dreams. Now, on to the next.

Stall opening June 1!

Cavan Dreams farm in Berks County, PA will have one stall opening for a gelding. We offer full care board with stall, tack room, wash stall with hot and cold water, wide aisle, grass pastures and indoor arena with sand/rubber footing. Individualized care, blanket changes, fly masks, fly spray, medications, etc. Owner lives on site. Your vet/farrier/trainer is welcome or use ours. Please PM with any questions.

It’s not uncommon to find horses and ponies living well into their 20s and 30s, thanks to continuous advances in nutrition and health care.

Horse owners have a big impact as well and can help their horses thrive in their golden years through proper management practices like those illustrated in the graphic. But remember, although there is much you can do on your own to keep your older horse happy and spry, some conditions associated with aging require medical intervention.

Scheduling regular visits and keeping a good line of communication with your veterinarian will allow you to respond quickly to any ailments or injuries that could cause your horse a serious or prolonged set back. That means less worry for you, and a better quality of life for your old friend!
