These hardworking ladies and gent are currently going through formal training and education to learn how to provide even better care for your pets! And they’re doing it while working full time! 👏🏻👏🏻

They already perform so many of the necessary tasks but are now learning even more technical skills as well as a deeper understanding of how the body works and the reasons behind what we do.

Cheer them on this week 📣 and every week as they continue to work hard caring for your pets all while studying to learn how to provide even better care to help give your pets happy, healthy lives! 🐶🐱

🩺Next up for Vet Tech Week are our veterinary technician school graduates 🎓- Jessica and Hilary! This means that these ladies have gone through the formal studies and training of vet tech school 📚, including courses such as Anatomy & Physiology, Pharmacology, etc., graduated, and now just have to sit for their board exam!

Once the final step of passing the big exam is complete, they will get to add 3 letters behind their name - LVT 🎉

Help us to congratulate them for their hard work thus far and cheer them on to that final hurdle👏🏻! The final step may be the last part before adding the letters, but it is no easy feat! 📝 We have every ounce of confidence in them, though! You’ve got this, ladies! 👍🏻

We are so proud of y’all and very thankful that you call Care Animal Center your veterinary home! 💚

It’s Vet Tech week! 🩺 Which means today’s spotlight is on Jenny! Many of you have known her for many years, and we are so thankful that Care Animal Center is still her home🏡! Care has seen her go from a veterinary assistant to a Licensed Veterinary Technician… and now to our practice manager as well!

Becoming an LVT means that Jenny attended vet tech school📚, gaining even more technical skills AND knowledge through courses (Anatomy & Physiology, Pharmacology, etc.), and then passed her board exam! 🎉

There aren’t words that seem sufficient for expressing just how much she means to us! What we can say is that we are so incredibly proud of her and are beyond grateful for what she brings to Care Animal Center💚. We’re not sure where we’d be without her!

So when you come in this week, show Jenny some love for all of her hard work towards caring for your pets and Care Animal Center!

Heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs, and blood vessels, and infected pets may not show obvious symptoms early on.

The good news is that heartworm disease is preventable. Staying consistent with veterinarian-recommended prevention and testing gives your pet important protection against this mosquito-borne disease.

Have questions about heartworm testing or prevention? Call 334-794-6333 or visit us at careanimal.net.

👋Meet Pierre, aka Pig! Pierre has a history of spinal disease rendering his rear legs too weak to use (paraparesis) as well as Sterile Nodular Panniculitis, which has been diagnosed and managed by Dr. Speed for a few years — yes, he used to travel to Auburn to see her before she joined us!

🔬Recently, he came to see her for not feeling well and just not acting like himself. His skin was experiencing a flare up, but Dr. Speed was sure to do a thorough workup to make certain it wasn’t something more. While evaluating his urinary bladder on ultrasound when obtaining lab samples, she and Dr. Hassler found a tumor on the spleen. Discussion of the best next steps with the owner lead to plans for surgical removal of the spleen - a splenectomy.

🏥Once Pierre’s skin was back under control, Dr. Speed performed a splenectomy and sent the tumor to a pathologist for definitive diagnosis. Pierre recovered very well and was already feeling better by the time the pathology report returned.

😃Great news! The mass was benign, meaning we don’t expect there to be any spread! Pierre can now continue living his best life! Had this not been removed, the risk of rupture would have loomed. And had rupture occurred, the ending may have been very different.

👏🏻Way to go, Pierre! We’re so proud of you! And we are so grateful to Pierre’s family for entrusting us with his care!

Brushing at home is an excellent habit, but it can't remove hardened tartar or fully address disease below the gumline.

A veterinary dental procedure lets the mouth be thoroughly evaluated and the teeth cleaned above and below the gumline, where periodontal disease can develop unseen.

Is your pet due for a dental evaluation? Call 334-794-6333 or visit us at careanimal.net.
