Shane’s story is one of survival. ❤️‍🩹🐾
Shane was found as a stray and brought to Miami-Dade County Animal Services by one of our Animal Welfare Officers. He had no microchip or identification tag, and he arrived wearing a cast.
When our veterinary team examined him, they quickly discovered that Shane’s left rear limb was completely degloved and severely infected. The infection had become so severe that amputation was necessary to save Shane’s life. Without it, the infection could have spread into his bloodstream and caused sepsis.
Our team stepped in with the lifesaving treatment Shane desperately needed. Now, he has a chance to heal, recover and start a new chapter. 🐾❤️‍🩹
Shane’s story is a reminder that sometimes, a second chance begins with lifesaving care.

Meet Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Capt. Shawn McPeek and his companion, Bailey.

Bailey is a fully trained service dog through who was adopted by Capt. McPeek through Miami-Dade Animal Services . She occasionally joins him at the fire station, where she provides comfort and support to Capt. McPeek and his crew, serving those who work every day to serve our community.

This National Dog Day, we’re highlighting Bailey’s story and the special role she now has after finding a home of her own. From being adopted through Miami-Dade Animal Services to providing support to our personnel, Bailey is a reminder of the difference adopting a shelter pet can make, not only in their life, but in the lives of the people around them.
