At 3-weeks old we have officially entered the toddler phase and the whelping box got an upgrade this weekend 🥰

Just like human toddlers, it’s important for puppies to be able to safely explore the world around them and figure out how their little bodies move. A little wobbling, tumbling, climbing, and problem-solving is all part of the process.

Momma to our 2nd litter.

Campari is from our Cello (BISS GCH CH Zinfndel Limoncello) and Sorellina (Loretta D'Franco Cara Sorella Mia WC) litter.

The sweetheart of the group, she loves babies and breweries. She's quiet and easy going. She is excellent at matching her energy to the mood around her. She is a sit next to you, not on top of you kind of girl. This girl aims to please and is just a solid reliable good girl.

She is OFA:
🩻 Excellent hips
🩻 Normal Elbows
🫀 Echo normal
👁👁 Eyes cleared
🧬 DNA Tested and Dilute free (always)

Early this year at the Central California Labrador Specialty show show she went Winner's B*tch, Best Opposite (over many gorgeous specials) and Best Bred by Exhibitor for a 5 point major!

Only her second weekend out, her first was back when she was a 6-9 month puppy and she's off to a promising start 🙌🏽🙌🏽

The next weekend she picked up another 2 points going WB and BOW!

She's taking some time off to be a mom and then back to the show ring she will go!

Happy 2 weeks Vespa babies 🥰

They got their collar upgrades today. Normally I don't use collars for ID, at least not at this age, preferring just a dab of nail polish on their little booties. But because there are two all black litters here right now, I wanted two forms of ID on every puppy just to make absolutely sure nobody gets mixed up, at least until they are big enough for microchips in another week or two.

Keeping track of who is who in the litter helps me monitor their weight, health, and all of their little developing personalities as they grow.

The collars I'm using are breakaway collars, so if they get caught on something they will pop open rather than choke the puppy. No collar is ever 100% safe, but these are my favorite option when I do need to use them. Every puppy is also identified by their own unique nail polish color.

I also prefer not to officially name the puppies while they are here so each will be referred to by their randomly selected color. I’ve found it helps me stay more neutral when evaluating temperament and structure. It’s surprisingly easy to start attaching certain expectations or personalities to a name, and I prefer to let the puppies show me who they are on their own.

After this many years as a pro dog trainer and having so many dogs come through my doors, almost every name already has some kind of history or bias attached to it in my brain. 😂

We have the first set of 👁👁!!!

The little tiny girl from Vespa's litter woke up with her peepers this morning. 🥰🥰

Born at 6.5 oz, she was less than half the size of her siblings. So far she’s proven to be a tough little cookie.
I actually moved her in with Campari’s litter, that are a week younger, so she would have better access to priority nursing. I also wanted her to get an extra dose of colostrum, and I suspect Campari’s milk might be a little higher in fat.

It took her a couple of days to adjust to being with the new group because she was eating so much she would make herself puke. But things have settled down this week and she is gaining well.

She hit 1 lbs 7oz yesterday! 💜
