💔 Our Rescue Needs Rescuing 💔
For years, Granny Rose Animal Shelter has been a place of hope, compassion, and second chances.
Today, we are facing one of the most difficult challenges in our history.
Our shelter is operating at the highest capacity we’ve ever experienced. Every kennel is full. Every cat room is overflowing. Every day, more animals need help than we have space for. At the same time, donations have slowed to a standstill.
We never imagined we would have to say this, but today, the rescue that saves so many lives needs rescuing.
We want to be honest with our community: we do not want to close our doors. We do not want to reduce services. We do not want to turn away animals or families who need help. But we cannot continue our mission without the support of the community that built us.
Because Granny Rose has never been just a building.
These four walls represent second chances.
A second chance for the abandoned dog who finally finds a family.
A second chance for the frightened kitten who learns what love feels like.
A second chance for families facing crisis who don’t know how they’ll feed their pets.
A second chance for individuals experiencing homelessness who are trying to stay together with the pets they love through our partnership with PADS.
A second chance for seniors in nursing homes whose faces light up when one of our dogs or cats visits.
A second chance for children learning kindness, pet safety, and responsible pet ownership through our school visits.
Every year, we help more than 1,000 families keep food in their pets’ bowls during difficult times. We provide low-cost vaccine clinics every other week to help keep pets healthy and safe throughout our community.
We proudly serve families and animals throughout Lee County, Whiteside County, and Ogle County. When local animal control agencies need help, when a family is facing hardship, when a pet has nowhere else to go, Granny Rose steps forward. We have always believed that every animal deserves a chance and every family deserves support.
These programs don’t just help animals. They help people.
What many don’t realize is that Granny Rose receives no funding from the city, county, or state. Not one dollar.
Everything we do is funded by donations from people who believe that every life matters.
People like you.
Granny Rose isn’t just an animal shelter. Granny Rose is our community.
The animals may live within these walls, but the heart of this shelter lives in every volunteer, donor, adopter, supporter, and neighbor who has ever believed in our mission.
Over the next week, we’ll be sharing videos about what Granny Rose means to us. We invite you to watch, share, comment, and tell your own story. If Granny Rose has touched your life in any way, we’d love for you to create a video and tag us so we can share it with others.
Right now, we are asking our community to come together once again.
Because when an animal needs rescuing, our community shows up.
Today, the rescue itself needs that same love.
Please help us continue being a place of second chances.
For the animals.
For the families.
For Lee County, Whiteside County, and Ogle County.
For the community that made Granny Rose possible.
❤️ Our rescue needs rescuing. And together, we can save it.
