People kept asking what breed Marina was…

Our best guess? 🤔

🐰 Bunny
🦭 Seal
👽 Baby Yoda
🐶 Puppy

The ears kept changing, so we were still investigating.

What we do know is that Marina is a 4 month old Pit Bull Terrier mix who captured a lot of hearts, and we’re excited to share that she was adopted last night! 🤎

After surviving a dog attack and learning to trust again, Marina is officially headed home with a family of her own.

A special thank you to for helping make adoptions like Marina’s possible through waived adoption fees for select pets in our care.

And for anyone who fell in love with Marina’s ears, personality, and puppy charm, don’t worry. We have plenty of other wonderful animals still waiting to write their own happy ending.

Someone's future best friend is sitting in these photos.
Actually... several someone's.

Some of these pets may have already found their families by the time you're seeing this, and honestly, we hope that's true 🤍

For those still waiting, they're hoping the next person who walks through the doors at Petco in Sterling Heights is the one.

A huge thank you to Purina for helping support pets as they wait for their families to find them.

Please share and help us get more eyes on these deserving animals 🐾

As National Pet Month comes to a close, one small reminder can make a life changing difference: microchip your pets 🐾

According to national data, lost pets with microchips are reunited with their families at significantly higher rates than those without one. In fact, reunion rates are nearly 3X higher for microchipped pets.

At Michigan Humane, we see firsthand how quickly accidents can happen. Open doors. Broken fences. Loud storms. A scared pet slipping away in seconds.

A microchip cannot prevent a pet from getting lost, but it can help bring them home.

Thank you to for helping spotlight the importance of pet identification and safety throughout National Pet Month.

🐱 This kitten cannot eat on its own.

For the first few weeks of life, neonatal kittens need to be fed every 2–4 hours, including overnight. During kitten season, that level of care can add up quickly for shelters and foster families caring for our smallest patients.

That’s why we’re so grateful to Orphan Kitten Club for their recent formula grant.

Their support helps provide lifesaving nutrition for vulnerable kittens in our shelters and foster homes, giving them the chance to grow, thrive, and eventually find loving families of their own 🍼🤍

Thank you, , for helping us care for kittens when they need us most.

Meet Leaf 🌿

A 1 year old American Bully XL with a head the size of a small planet and enough pretty boy swag to know it.

We were trying to get adoption photos.
Leaf was trying to leave.

This handsome guy is currently available for adoption at our Berman Center for Animal Care in Westland, and thanks to our friends his adoption fee is waived.

Leaf is looking for someone ready for a whole lot of dog, a whole lot of personality, and one very, very large head 🤎

Animal welfare does not exist in a bubble.

When people in our communities have stronger support systems, animals benefit too. Safer housing, access to resources, mental health support, emergency response, and community wellbeing all directly impact the lives of pets and the people who love them.

That is why our team is attending the 2026 Mackinac Policy Conference this week.

Because advocating for animals also means being part of larger conversations shaping the future of Michigan.

Throughout the week, our President and CEO and Chief Philanthropy Officer connected with leaders, supporters, and organizations from across the state, including interviews with and , former Michigan Humane board member and longtime friend of our organization.

We are proud to continue making sure animals, and the people who love them, are represented in rooms where important conversations are happening.

We are REALLY hoping Siri can go from foster care straight into a forever home 🤎

Right now, Siri is in a foster home through our Berman Center for Animal Care in Westland, and her foster family has watched her confidence completely grow outside of the shelter environment.

She’s started playing fetch in the backyard, carrying toys around the house, free roaming beautifully, and settling in easily around other dogs. Her foster shared that adding Siri into their home has been an incredibly smooth transition because she is simply just a really good dog.

And honestly, that’s exactly why we are sharing her.

Sometimes dogs truly begin to open up once they are in a home environment, and we would love for Siri to continue building on that progress instead of returning to shelter life.

She is a 5 year old Terrier / American Pitbull mix currently looking for her forever family.

Please share Siri so more people can see her 🤍

We know we cannot save every animal.

But to the animal being pulled from the highway, rushed into surgery, treated after abuse, or finally held safely after days of fear, being helped means everything.

This is why we do it 💔

Our Critical Care Fund exists for the animals with no one else paying for their emergency care. The strays. The severe injuries. The animals who arrive needing immediate treatment, surgery, and time to heal.

If you would like to help animals currently fighting their way back to health, you can donate here:

Thank you to for continuing to support animals in our care every step of the way 🤍

Now appropriately named Lightning McQueen because honestly, is there a more orange cat name than that? ⚡️🚗

After receiving calls from the community about a frightened cat curled along the shoulder of the Lodge Freeway, our Field Services team safely responded and brought him to safety.

Highway rescues like this are incredibly dangerous for both animals and drivers, which is why we always encourage the public to call trained professionals or local authorities rather than attempting roadside rescues themselves.

According to the Federal Highway Administration, stopping unexpectedly on highways dramatically increases the risk of secondary accidents, especially in high traffic areas.

Calling trained responders gives animals like Lightning McQueen the safest chance at getting home safely 🤍

Thank you to our partner for helping support and spotlight rescue efforts like this throughout the month.

Pets deserve a life of love, not a life in a lab.

For nearly 150 years, Michigan Humane has advocated for the humane treatment and welfare of animals in our community. Today, we are urging support for Queenie’s Law (HB 4254 and SB 127), legislation that would end painful and distressing testing on dogs in Michigan research facilities.

This is an animal welfare issue that cannot be ignored.

Read our latest blog to learn why Michigan Humane believes now is the time to pass Queenie’s Law and help create a more humane future for pets in our state.
