Colony Cat Club Detroit

Colony Cat Club Detroit Colony Cat Club is a Detroit-based cat rescue that was officially created on March 31, 2023.

Colony Cat Club Detroit is a 501c3 non-profit cat rescue serving Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park through TNR, medical care, and adoption for outdoor kitties! Born out of need, we are ready to work towards our belief that every cat deserves a chance. Our mission is to care for our city's discarded kitties through rescue, adoption, and TNR (trap, neuter, return). We also believe in empowering and supporting our neighbors through providing assistance to care for their beloved cats.

Shop from local makers, grab a drink, and meet cats! Meow Market is back Urbanrest Brewing on Sunday September 13th from 2-6 pm. We’ll have adoptable cats ready to meet you outside, and drinks and our amazing makers inside for you to shop from. There are some familiar faces who are joining as makers again, and some new friends joining us for the first time.

🐱 We don’t do same day adoptions. BUT you can fill out an adoption app ahead of time and get pre-approved. So if you meet a cat and fall in love at the event, you can take them home that day

🐈 You’re welcome to bring your own cat in a stroller or on a harness and leash. Cats must remain outside!

Spay and neuter is 100% effective in preventing kittens from being born outside. 😻

We are so grateful that this colony will no longer continue having kittens, and that the adult cats will lead healthier lives now that they are spayed and neutered. They are also vaccinated against preventable diseases. One of the cats in this colony had most of his tail amputated, and will be recovering a little longer indoors with his very dedicated caretakers. By receiving this medical care, we hope that he will lead a more comfortable life.

TNR makes an impact for both the cats and the community. 🧡

This week, we trapped 12 cats total for TNR. ✨ 6 of them are being placed up for adoption! Five little void kittens will be available through us in a couple of weeks, and our friends at Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society took in a friendly guy for adoption.

Of the 6 cats TNR'd, one was a 15 year old female who recently gave birth to yet another litter. She had large masses on her abdomen, but our vet determined that they were not cancerous. They were likely from years of pregnancy and raising kittens, and the toll that has taken on her body. She had an extended stay with us, and was eating well and generally seemed ready to go back home. She is the cat pictured on the cover of this reel.

15 years is a long and hard life to give birth over and over again. Her colony has been active without any TNR for 30ish years, and the kittens of this colony have a very low survival rate. Statistically, only 25% of kittens born outside survive to 6 months of age. This mama cat has sacrificed so much, and we hope that she finds peace now that she isn't giving birth over and over again.

Everyone plays a part in ending the cycle of suffering. You can make a difference in your own colony by learning how to TNR, and coming up with a plan to make it happen. We know you love the cats. Now is the time to help them in a way they cannot help themselves. 🖤

Meet Lindsay Lohan: a brave ginger looking for the ultimate comeback story. 🧡

Lindsay's story is a hard one. She was an outdoor cat who was brought into the vet by a concerned neighbor. Lilo had gotten her back leg caught in an engine, breaking her leg and severing the tendons. The owners said they were going to euthanize her because they didn’t want to deal with a cat with 3 legs. They agreed to relinquish ownership to our rescue, and we proceeded with medical treatment.

Initially, we thought she would need a complete amputation, but our vet felt confident that he could repair her leg and foot. Lindsay had had multiple litters outside, and was unfortunately pregnant again. However, these kittens had passed away inside her and were removed during her spay procedure. Lindsay has really been through it.

We are so excited to report that Lindsay is healing beautifully from her surgeries. She may not ever have full use of her back leg, but she doesn't mind. Lilo is happy to be out of pain, and is feeling safe and secure inside.

Lindsay is the queen of sticking her tongue out. 🤪 She is about a week away from being permanently cone-free, and she can't wait! Lindsay has been described as "the absolute sweetest cat" and "the nicest cat I have ever met". We love this for her!

Lindsay will be available for adoption soon, and as always, we are opening up applications to our followers first. We will always be Team Lindsay Lohan. 🧡

We have also added a fundraiser to help us cover some of Lindsay's medical costs. Her leg repair and spay were $1011.16, with a follow up vet visit of $81.27. All donations go directly to her ongoing care.

Breaking news: Kewpie is ready to be adopted! 💕

Kewpie was taped inside a cardboard box and left outside our vets office. They luckily discovered her quickly and were able to get her situated inside, away from the ants that had joined her in the box. 😢 Gratefully, Kewpie was healthy and happy to be cared for.

Kewpie is the kind of kitten that melts your heart. She loves to be snuggled up like the baby she is. 🥹 Kewpie is the perfect WFH kitten, and can make emailing feel a little less traumatic. She loves to play with other cats, and would love having another silly kitty to pal around with. Kewpie is trusting and sweet, and deserves to be shown that she will never be an afterthought again.

Has Kewpie wiggled her way into the Kewpie sized hole in your heart? 💖

The Animal Crossing Villagers are ready to travel to a new island. 🏝️

After giving birth in a trap in May, mama Merengue was terrified and unsure about what the future held for her and her tiny family. Luckily, we had emergency placement available, and Merengue got to raise her kittens inside. We are so grateful that this entire family has thrived and is now ready for adoption.

Please don't sleep on Merengue. She is an absolutely gorgeous cat, on the inside and out. Merengue purrs non-stop (even during vaccinations and blood draws). She is a very intuitive mom, but she wants to be the baby going forward. Merengue is young, sweet, and ready to get the forever she deserves.

Tom Nook, Bonbon, Lolly, Soleil and Apple are all 9 weeks old and ready to play! Tom Nook is the only boy, and he's been very good about sharing his bells. 🔔 Lolly absolutely melts when she's being held, and has the cutest purr. Soleil is active and always hanging out with a sibling or two. Apple is the perfect combination of sugar and spice and everything nice. Bonbon is adventurous and independent. She is always the first one to try something new!

All of the kittens are brave and social. They are playful, sweet, and a little sassy. All perfect kittens!

This whole family is incredibly unique looking, but we are having potential adopters meet the entire litter to see who they vibe with best. Spoiler alert: it's probably going to be Merengue. 🥰 The entire crew is up to date on vaccines and FIV/FeLV negative.

Apply to meet the Animal Crossing Villagers today!

4 more fixed and vaccinated cats were returned to their colonies. This is 4 less cats contributing to the stray cat crisis affecting Detroit.

The last tortie cat is the mama of the Best Friend litter, and she was super happy to be back outside.

It's also the bittersweet time of year where we have to return kittens. Why are we returning them?! Unfortunately, there are not enough foster homes and resources to bring every single kitten we come across inside. We are contacted multiple times every day about cats and kittens needing foster care and adoption. It is heartbreaking saying no. ❤️‍🩹 But it would also be irresponsible and inhumane to take on more cats than we can reasonably care for.

We are very aware of how many cats are suffering outside, and we urge you to consider helping make a difference in your colony. Learn how to trap. Take a TNR class. Talk to your friends and colleagues about adoption and fostering. Ask your veterinarian to consider offering TNR services. Reach out to your representatives about animal welfare.

It will take all of us playing an active part to make an impact on the stray cat population. You can help. You can make a difference.
