SPOOKY GOOD ADOPTION EVENT!

Something wickedly cute is coming to Fargo!

Humane Society of the Lakes will be at PetSmart Fargo this Sunday, October 25th, from 11 AM to 4 PM with kittens, puppies, and some goodies for your pets!

Looking for a new sidekick to join your haunted household? Stop out, meet our adorable adoptable animals, see who’s looking for a forever home, and maybe take home a new best friend. Who knows? You might just fall under a puppy’s spell or get bewitched by a kitten!

We want to see your pets in costume! Bring your little goblins, furry monsters, witches, and four-legged vampires by to show off their Halloween looks. We would love to see what spooky shenanigans your pets are getting into!

Come say hello, meet some adorable faces, and help us make this Halloween a little less spooky for animals still searching for their happily ever after.

URGENT: WE NEED WET KITTEN FOOD!

We are going through almost 2 CASES of wet kitten food EVERY DAY right now.

We have so many orphan kittens who need frequent feedings of wet food and emaciated older kittens who desperately need extra calories and nutrition. Our wet food supply is disappearing FAST, and we need your help to keep these little ones fed.

Here’s how you can help:

Shop from our links below — your order can be shipped directly to Humane Society of the Lakes!

https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/21CG79Y77N4KH?ref_=wl_share

Buy kitten food locally and drop it off at the shelter at 19665 US HWY 59 Detroit Lakes.

Donate money to our accounts at Becker Pet & Garden and The Candy Store or Best Pets Detroit Lakes , that we can use towards our food needs.

Every can, every case, and every dollar helps us keep these kittens fed while they grow stronger and find their way to loving homes.

If you've ever wanted to help a tiny kitten make it through a tough start, this is one of those times. We need you.

Thank you to everyone who continues to help us care for the overwhelming number of kittens coming through our doors. We truly couldn't do it without you.

Please share this post! Even if you can't donate, sharing can help us reach someone who can.

The Battle of the Tees is still ON!

Help Humane Society of the Lakes battle our way into the Top 3 participating nonprofits!

Here’s how you can help: Buy a $25 T-shirt featuring our HSL design, and $10 of every shirt sold comes directly back to us! That’s a pretty awesome way to support the animals while getting yourself a new shirt.

And there’s more — if we finish in the Top 3, we’ll receive an additional donation prize!

https://shirtsfromfargo.com/leave-your-mark-by-the-humane-society-of-the-lakes/

We have until November 9th, so there’s still time to order. Grab a shirt, support HSL, and share this post with your friends and family to help us spread the word!

Every shirt counts, and every share helps!

Let’s see if we can make it into the Top 3!

🐾 Today is the start of National Veterinary Technician Week 🐾

This week, we want to give a shout out to Marisa, our shelter veterinary technician, for the work she does every day to keep the animals in our care healthy and ready for adoption.

From routine medical care and medications to handling the unexpected, Marisa plays an important role in our shelter operations and animal care.

Thank you, Marisa, for all the work you do for the animals and for being an important part of our team!

And a shout-out to all the veterinary technicians out there working in shelters, clinics, hospitals, and everywhere in between. We appreciate the work you do for animals and the teams you support. 🐾

We are looking for any info to add on owner/where this pup came from. If you know any details, please message us on facebook!

Do you know this boy?

He was left on our property with a note, the note made it seem like he was possibly taken from the actual owners. If you know him or any info please call us 218-847-0511 or message us on Facebook.

Please, do not leave dogs on the shelter property. We are located so close to a U.S. highway that the risk of a dog getting into traffic is incredibly dangerous. No staff member, volunteer, or person driving down the road should have to live with the guilt of accidentally hitting a dog, or even seeing one get hit, when the situation could have been handled differently. Please come into the building and talk to us. We can work together to make a game plan and discuss options. While we cannot always take an animal in immediately due to limited space and being over capacity, we will do our best to help as space and resources allow. Thankfully, this dog trusted our staff enough to come with them and was brought inside safely without incident. This pup is now safe in our building, and we made room despite our already overcapacity shelter. The work we do in animal welfare is hard enough every single day without having to worry about dogs being left near a busy highway. We understand that people face difficult situations, We simply ask that you give us the opportunity to talk with you and explore possible solutions before leaving an animal behind. Please don't put an animal at risk by leaving them unattended. Even when we cannot help immediately, communication gives us the chance to work toward a safer plan for everyone involved, especially the animal.

LOOK WHO’S HOME!

It’s been a BUSY few days around here, and we couldn’t be more excited to share some happy news!

Alpine, Doode, Gunray, Tums, Bongo, Scamper & Serama (together!), Bueno, Lt. Dan, Chasm, Polina, Scoot, and Scrunchie have all found their forever homes! 🎉

A HUGE thank you to all of their adopters for opening their hearts and homes to these amazing animals. Every adoption means one more shelter pet gets the happy ending they’ve been waiting for.

But while we’re celebrating these lucky pups and kitties, there are still lots of animals at the Humane Society of the Lakes waiting for their turn. They’re hoping their person walks through our doors soon!

Could your family be the one they’ve been waiting for?
