Happy Father's Day! I'm blessed with the best. My dad is kind, strong, hard working, honest, the funniest person I know, and my biggest cheerleader. We've shared many Pepsis, laughs, and teaching moments, and I'm super grateful for his guidance through this thing called life.
He was my only parent until he married my step-mom, The Beckster, when I was in high school. A single dad in the 90s certainly did not have it easy, but he rocked it, and nurtured my love for animals along the way. Lots of trips to the pet store, Jester Park, Living History Farms, Blank Park Zoo, and I don't think there was a second I had the remote that our TV wasn't on Animal Planet (except when Scooby-Doo or The Powerpuff Girls were on). The first time I saw Steve Irwin on TV I remember turning to my dad and saying, "I want to do that when I grow up!". And I did. Well, kind of.
My dad gave me more than he probably realizes, and continues to year after year. He gave me resilience. Strength. A good sense of humor (and belly laugh to boot). The ability to see the good things in life, despite the bad. He taught me critical thinking and how to be resourceful. And most importantly, he gave me the freedom to be my true and authentic self, and follow my dreams. I got a little lost on the way, but here I am. Self employed, loved by those around me, and living my dream every day, because he raised his small but mighty little girl to take the bull by the horns (literally, actually... I'll share that story another day 😅) and make the best of what the world has to offer. Just like him.
