“Mary’s Grief”. Some details that deserve an explanation, like her lack of hair, the crushing flower, and the small floating fetus nearby, are noteworthy. In some religious traditions, newly accepted nuns will have their hair hand plucked or shaved off as an act of ultimate humility. She followed her son into a new era of faith and belief. The crushing flower is a complicated symbol of the garden of Eden, Gods love, and his mysterious ways. The nearby floating fetus represents her, her motherhood, and Jesus. Typically, Jesus is centered in his paintings or depictions. I wanted him to be the center, but only subtly. I am willing to sell this piece if anyone has any interest.
