PLEASE, Trap With A PLAN!!

You heard about a sad situation, a pregnant community cat, an injured kitty…….so, you ran right out and trapped it. Now what???? You call the clinic and no appointments are available for at least two weeks. And you don’t have any place to hold it.

Unfortunately this happens almost every day, sometimes more than once, at every clinic and to everyone scheduling spay/neuter appointments for the clinics. Sadly, there just aren’t enough resources to meet the need and often clinics are scheduled two or more weeks out. And the cats already scheduled are pregnant, injured, from sad situations, or have been waiting for up to a month for an appointment.

You really push the scheduler…..you are desperate to get an appointment for your cat. You have nowhere to hold it and you’ll just need to take it back if you can’t get in. But often there is nothing the person scheduling appointments can do – the clinic is full and there just isn’t an option. But now he/she has a picture of your cat, your sad situation, in his/her head. Nothing can be done, but knowing about this situation has added even more stress to an already difficult job.

Please understand that people working with spay/neuter clinics, whether they are paid staff or volunteers, are doing this because they love the cats and want to make their lives better. When the answer has to be no it’s not personal, it’s the reality of not having enough resources to meet all of the needs.

When dealing with these situations PLEASE, identify your resources before you trap the cat, or have a plan to hold the cat for several days or even a couple of weeks. Be kind to the people working with the clinics…..they are doing everything they can and sadly they are dealing with situations like yours many times during any given week. Compassion fatigue is real.

Luna is a smart and active girl, as many huskies are, and she’ll do best with an owner who understands the breed and can meet her physical and mental needs. She would do best in a home without dogs and cats. We also recommend a household without small children, where her boundaries and energy level can be respected.

On walks, Luna is enthusiastic and tends to pull on the leash, so continued training will help her become a more polished walking companion. With consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement, she has great potential to learn and grow.

Summer is a beautiful 2-year-old Pit Bull weighing 42 pounds, and she's ready to find the forever family she's been waiting for. This energetic girl was returned to the shelter because she wasn't a good match for the resident dog, so she'll do best as the only pet in her new home. She would also be happiest in a home without small children.

Summer has plenty of energy and would love an active adopter who can keep up with her adventurous spirit. Whether it's long walks, hikes, or playtime in the yard, she's always ready for fun! She pulls a little on the leash, so continued leash training and consistency will help her become an even better walking companion.
