🐾 Day 2 of Jax working on the “Down” command! 🐶

One of the biggest things I’ve learned in training is the importance of allowing your dog to think for himself. 🧠✨

Instead of physically helping or guiding him into the command, give him the opportunity to figure it out.

When they work through it on their own, the command becomes instilled much more quickly and they truly understand what you’re asking. 💯

Patience + consistency + letting them think = better training results! 🐕❤️

🐾 PLAYTIME DOESN’T HAVE TO START AT 100MPH! 🐾

Most people don’t ask for obedience or calm behavior from their dogs before heading to the dog park or a friend’s house for a playdate. Then you put several highly excited dogs together, and they feed off each other’s energy until everyone is OVER-AROUSED! 🔥🐕💨

A controlled leash walk or hike BEFORE playtime is a great way to help bring those energy levels down and get the dogs thinking before they start running, wrestling, and playing. 🦮🌲

And just as important—know when to stop! ⏰Good play should have breaks. Dogs should be able to disengage, settle down, and return to a calm state. 🧘‍♀️🐶

Knox came to me because of his over-arousal around other dogs. This is exactly why I am so careful about how he interacts with them. He doesn’t need more opportunities to rehearse chaotic behavior—he needs structure, boundaries, and the ability to remain calm around other dogs. 🐕‍🦺🎯

I also won’t allow my dogs to socialize with unruly or poorly controlled dogs.
Dogs learn from other dogs. If I repeatedly allow my dogs to interact with dogs that are out of control, they are learning that behavior, too.

👉 Choose your dog’s playmates carefully.
👉 Control the excitement before it becomes chaos.
👉 Teach them how to play AND how to settle.
Don’t just let dogs “figure it out.”

Be the one managing the environment. 🐾💯

🐾 The Bed/Crate Game! 🛏️🐶

Most of the time, when we put our dogs in their crate, we shut the door. 🚪

But remember—dogs are pack animals, and they naturally don’t love being separated from us. ❤️

Sometimes, though, crating is necessary, especially for their own safety.

So… make it a game! 🎉
Send your dog back and forth between their bed 🛏️ and crate 🏠 without shutting the door. Make going into the crate fun, rewarding, and no big deal!

The goal is to teach them that the crate isn’t a place where they’re suddenly separated from you—it’s just another safe, happy place to be. 🥰🐾

P.S. The crate is the ONE command I reward EVERY single time they go in and I need to shut the door. 🎁🐕 No matter how old they are!

Positive associations go a long way. 💕✨

🎁🐶 The Surprise Reward! 🐾✨

Try this fun training trick with two small, identical toys that you can easily hide under your armpit. 🧸🐕

🎾 Reward your dog with one toy, then quietly sneak the second identical toy under your arm. Ask for another position or behavior… and when they get it right, surprise them with the hidden toy! 🎉😍

Your dog doesn’t know there’s another reward waiting, which makes that surprise even more exciting! 🐶💥

🐾 BOARD & TRAIN — IT’S MORE THAN A JOB. ❤️

There is no time clock when it comes to board and train. ⏰❌

These dogs come into my home, become part of my family, and are treated like my own. 🏡🐶❤️

They take time, energy, patience, and yes — time away from my family and my own dogs.

You simply can’t put a dollar amount on that. 💯

There is no “down time.” These dogs can’t just sit in crates, come out for a training session, and then go home expected to magically know how to behave in their own environment.

They need to live it. They need structure, consistency, boundaries, patience, affection, and real-life experiences. 🐕✨

Board and train isn’t just about training a dog for an hour or two. It’s about teaching them how to live differently — and giving them the foundation to bring those skills home with them. ❤️🐾

It’s not a job. It’s a way of life. 🐶❤️

🐶🖐️ The Hand Target: A Helpful Skill for Vet Visits & Grooming! ✂️🩺

Teach your dog to keep their chin resting in your hand while being touched. This can help make handling more predictable and cooperative. 💕🐾

Start at home with family members, then gradually practice with trusted friends before asking your vet or groomer to try it. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦➡️🤝➡️🩺

For dogs with severe aggression or handling concerns, work with a qualified professional. A properly conditioned muzzle may provide an additional layer of safety.

You can also teach a reliable hold of a dowel or ball as another cooperative-handling behavior. 🎾

Go slowly, reward generously, and always prioritize safety and your dog’s comfort. 🥰🐾

🐾 Teaching your dog to be calm around people and other dogs starts when they’re young—and with the right examples.

Surround them with calm, confident people and well-mannered dogs. The energy they experience can shape the way they learn to interact.

Remember: crazy makes crazy. Calm makes calm. 🐶✨
