Happy from Igor, our 27-year-old black vulture. 🖤
Igor has been part of the Zoo since 1999, when she arrived from Busch Gardens. As an Animal Ambassador, she wowed guests in the Wildlife Amphitheater soaring overhead, racing across the stage, and sometimes even challenging kids to a recycling-sorting race.
These days, Igor is thriving behind the scenes with her Animal Care team, including Lora, who has cared for and adored her for 21 years. She loves mist baths, sunning herself with her wings fully spread, and participating in her own care through trained behaviors that help keep her healthy and comfortable.
Black vultures look identical as males or females, so for 16 years Igor was thought to be male until she laid an egg while Lora was on vacation. Surprise: Igor is a girl! 🥚
We’re honored to provide the care, enrichment and love this special lady needs to keep thriving and living her best life well into old age for her species.
