Sensible Canine Pet Training using relationship-centered training in Denver, Arvada, Golden, and surrounding areas. Mehak has been training dogs since 2016.

Sensible Canine (Previously Pawsitive Outlook Dog Training/Pawsitive Obedience) was started by Marni Center in 2012 and has grown exponentially since then. We have added new training packages and options focusing on positive reinforcement techniques and creating lasting relationships with dogs and their families. Sensible Canine has added another owner/trainer, Mehak Greenberg, who will be working hard to collaborate on training cases and add even more features for our clients. Marni has been training dogs since 2012 when she finished her Animal Behavior College Dog Training Certification. She makes it a priority to keep up with the most recent developments in the science of dog training and behavior and is driven by compassion and dedication. Marni has a deep connection to both dogs and their people and loves to see the positive results that working with clients can achieve. She has worked with hundreds of families and their pets in developing strong lifelong relationships built on mutual respect and trust. She holds a Certification in Professional Dog Training - Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA). Mehak stays up to date on her education and keeps up with the most recent developments in the field. Something that has come up recently for a few of our clients is how best to transition your dog into a new home environment, so we wanted to share some thoughts.

A new home may feel exciting to us, but for our dogs it can mean a complete shift in their world.

New sights. New sounds. New smells. New routines. New neighborhood dogs and unfamiliar places to explore.

Even confident dogs may need time to adjust. While some dogs settle in quickly, a majority of pups may show signs of stress through changes in appetite, sleep, energy levels, bathroom habits, or behavior.

During a transition, it’s important to remember that your dog isn’t “being difficult" or "spiteful", they’re learning how to navigate a new environment and understand what feels safe and predictable again. A few things you can do to help ease the transition include;

• Keeping familiar routines when possible, especially around meals, walks, and rest
• Creating a comfortable space where your dog can relax and decompress, ideally one that is established in your first home and transitioned similarly to the new space.
• Introducing new surroundings gradually instead of overwhelming them all at once
• Giving them time and freedom to observe and adjust at their own pace

Every dog experiences change differently, and understanding your individual dog’s needs is an important part of helping them thrive.

Training isn’t just about stopping unwanted behavior, it’s about helping your dog learn what to do instead.

When a dog jumps on guests, pulls on leash, barks out the window, or struggles to settle, the behavior we see is only part of the picture.

Effective training goes beyond simply stopping the behavior and instead asks:

What skill does this dog need, and what is making that skill difficult right now?

The answer may be different for every dog. Factors such as the environment, emotions, past experiences, level of arousal, and individual needs can all influence behavior.

That’s why successful training is rarely one-size-fits-all. A thoughtful plan considers the whole dog and helps build practical skills that support both the dog and their family in everyday life.

When a dog doesn’t respond to a cue they know, it can be tempting to assume they’re being stubborn or ignoring us.

But dogs don't operate on spite. Instead, your dog may be

Too distracted or overstimulated
Feeling anxious, fearful or stressed
Still learning how to perform the skill in that environment (generalizing is hard)
Focused on something more interesting/more important to them
Tired or simply having an off day

Dogs don’t automatically understand that “sit” in the quiet living room means the same thing as “sit” at a busy park with squirrels, unfamiliar dogs, and exciting smells. Skills need to be practiced gradually in different environments before they become reliable everywhere.

Instead of asking, “Why is my dog refusing?” try asking:

“What might be making this difficult for my dog right now?”

That small shift can help us adjust the environment, lower the difficulty, and set our dogs up for success.

Congratulations to our latest class of graduates!

We're so proud of everything these dogs and their families accomplished over the past several weeks. Thank you for your hard work, dedication, and for making class so much fun. We loved watching your relationships and training skills grow!

Thanks for staying tuned, time to share sweet Pepa's DNA results! If you guessed any bully breeds, you're probably right 😂, Peppa has almost all the bully breeds in her genes. Next pup up is Andy's sister, Pepa. Despite her name, she's not the spicy dog in the family. In fact, this girl is very friendly and loves everyone she meets. She is, however, quite bold and will give you a million kisses if the opportunity arises. She loves to play keep away with her toys and will break into full on zoomies when you instigate play!

Time is up. Andy's DNA results are here!! This character of a boy definitely has the attitude of a Terrier with the etiquette of a Companion (aka pampered lap) pupper. No wonder he's so cute and sweet but with a side of spicy! While DNA is an informative consideration, Andy is also the product of his family's love and attention! If he lets you in his inner circle, you'll feel like you've won the jackpot.

Time for another guessing game. What breeds do you think make up this adorable meerkat of a dog?!

Andy is sweet and timid but loyal to his people. This boy has a fiery attitude but requests cheek kisses from his human mom every chance he can get. As pictured, Andy likes to sit up on his back legs with his front legs in the air to beg for food and won't give strangers a chance unless they give him a treat.

The more people guess, the sooner the results will post! Ready... Set.... Go!!
