OBSERVATIONAL LEARNING. It is helpful for new dogs to watch polite dogs because like children, dogs mimic peers.

“What does she get away with? What is tolerated?? What is rewarded?”

Your dog is watching…taking notes, and trying out their peer’s behaviors. This is why it is important to be clear with rules early in group settings.

Don’t slack.

Handlers who are clear on rules early on, ultimately get their dog to a good place faster aaaaand -ready for it - with far fewer corrections aaaand with less net pressure.

That’s the unintuitive part.
