REACTIVITY SET-UPS.
1. Stage the environment in a parking lot, or an equally open space.

2. Position your stranger-dogs at a distance in a down-stay. (Down-stay is optional, however it does make it easier for your reactive dog if this is their first reactivity set-up.)

3. Walk your reactive dogs in heel position around the stranger-dogs. Correct creeper-staring with, “Uh uh,” and then low-ish stimulation on the EZ educator e-collar.

No staring more than one second. If your dog escalates to vocalization, your response time is too slow.

4. Next, position both parties to pass the other. Lead with the stranger dogs and weave back-and-forth throughout the open space. This provides are many opportunities to look and look away.

Repeat, repeat, repeat until all parties are minding their own business.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel: fun facts:

1. King Charles the 2nd’s favorite breed- hence the name.

2. The “Cavalier” part of the name refers to the political supporters of his father, Charles I, during the English Civil War.

3. Bred from hunting spaniels and selected for their lap-size body, and penchant for a good snuggle...one of the original lap dogs.

RULES OF THE WALK:
1. Walk at my left heel, or behind in follow-mode.

2. Ignore dogs & humans. No creeper-staring.

3. No sniffing.

The aforementioned are permitted once formally released. So handlers - once you see a potential sniff-spot or potty spot, release your dog with, “Okay!” in a singsong voice. Then make a grand sweeping gesture towards that spot.

UNSOLICITED TESTIMONIAL from a client during Sunday pack walk. While she doesn’t mention it, a relevant aspect of success is a proper interview process on the front end to feel out if the *human client is someone who is liable to be a compatible student with our team.

Hadlee’s mom is present. Engaged. She trusted the process. Took notes. And she followed through on instruction, even when it meant asking proper questions to seen clarity.

Then, while it’s not mandatory, she showed up to pack walk to learn more.
So while she sings our praises, Yee gratitude is mutual. 🤗

Banter during a heel lesson with Benny. Trainer Madalyn is 7 months pregnant and still shows up to train dogs. She notices that her new body inhibits her field of vision. She’s switched over to covering our clerical needs, and she’ll continue to help until her body says it is time to give life.

2.Blankets OVER crates.
3. Bedding IN crates. (Assuming your dog doesn’t not try to consume bedding.)

Minimize vibrations and you’ll reduce sound, reflective light, and the unsettling sense of instability.
