Happy !
Did you we have been getting to know pets and their parents in the Park Hill Community for almost 14 years? We asked our very own Dr. Margot Vahrenwald, who started and still owns the practice, what she has learned over the years: "Veterinary medicine is always full of surprises - that may be our only constant as it such a personal relationship with pet owners and each individual pet. We may have days where we may repeatedly discuss the same something, whether the needs of a new pet; specific clinical signs such as diarrhea, allergies or arthritis; or finally confirm the diagnosis of a rare disease for the first time, but it is focused each time on that individual patient so it's never 100% the same."

Have had many clients and friends asking about Prop 129 on this November's ballot for a mid-level Veterinary Professional Associate (VPA).

The bottom line is vote NO - this proposal does not serve our clients and patients and does a huge disservice to all the credentialed veterinary technicians (CVT or CrVT) and veterinary technician specialists (VTS).

The measure is being likened to a human nurse practitioner level, which is not appropriate based on the program outlined at CSU. The VPA program is proposed as a two-year's master's degree program with three online-semesters and one in-person semester that will then allow the graduate to prescribe medications, take on simple wellness care for patients and also potentially be able to perform anesthetic surgical procedures such as spays, neuters and dental treatment such as extractions - with very little clinical practice nor a certifying examination. For comparison, accredited veterinary technician programs are 2 to 3 years with in-person, hands-on clinical training while veterinarians are in a 4 year program that includes two years of clinical, hands-on training.

Veterinarians in Colorado are opposed to Proposition 129 and they are speaking out about it.
