School's out for summer.

The Class of May 2026 spent their final semester battling a severe case of senioritis. Naps got longer, zoomies got faster, and more than a few students seemed ready to stop studying forever homes and start living in one.

🎓 Super Senior: Chunk
🏅 Perseverance Award: Calvin
🏖️ Most Deserving of a Summer Break: Bud
✨ Class Favorite: Pop Pop

Some arrived ready to make friends. Others needed a little extra time before they felt comfortable raising their paws and joining the group. But one by one, they found their people, packed up their favorite toys, and headed home for summer break.

To the fosters, adopters, volunteers, donors, and everyone working behind the scenes: thank you for helping this class graduate into the lives they deserve.

And to the 75 cats heading home this month, class is dismissed. Enjoy a lifetime of summer vacation.

Graduation season never really ends around here. Help the next class find their way home by adopting, fostering, volunteering, or donating: https://www.rmfr-colorado.org/

Already adopted from us? We love seeing our RMFR alumni living their best nine lives - send us an update and let us know how your graduate is doing!

It's their first Foster Friday, so please give a warm welcome to Kijo and Hodor, a bonded pair who have never met an adventure they couldn't improve by bringing their best friend along.

Like any great duo, they each bring something different to the mix.

Hodor is the official greeter. He'll happily introduce himself, settle in for some pets, and eventually make his way into your lap. He's endlessly curious about the world around him and likes to keep tabs on everything, especially if it involves treats, wet food, and a door that might lead somewhere interesting.

Kijo is the activities director. Toss a toy, roll a ball, or start handing out affection and he'll be there immediately. He loves to play, loves to be loved, and has no interest in missing out on anything fun happening nearby.

Kijo and Hodor already know who they'll be bringing along. Now they're looking for a family to share the road ahead with.

Happy National Hug Your Cat Day.

Today we're celebrating one of the highest honors a cat can bestow upon a human: trust. Because in the feline world, letting someone pick you up, hold you, and tolerate your face being that close to theirs is a pretty big deal.

Every hug pictured here started with trust. Sometimes that trust took days to build. Sometimes it took months. Sometimes it took an alarming amount of treats and a staff member sitting on the floor pretending not to be interested.

So if your cat allows a hug today, consider yourself lucky. If they don't, congratulations on owning a cat.

We know that some cats have an easier time finding homes than others. Kittens get scooped up quickly. Healthy young adults rarely wait long. But cats with medical needs are often overlooked, even when they're every bit as loving, affectionate, and deserving of a family.

Lily is one of those cats.

Since arriving last August, she's spent her days perfecting the art of cozy naps, winning over everyone she meets, and earning a reputation as a shelter favorite. For a while, she served as our unofficial office manager, often found snoozing under desks and accepting affection as payment for her consulting services.

Lily is diabetic and receives insulin twice a day on a consistent schedule. It's a routine she handles beautifully, but it's also the reason she's still waiting while so many cats have come and gone.

The truth is, Lily doesn't spend her days thinking about diabetes. She's too busy finding the best nap spot in the room, soaking up affection, and being the sweet, gentle companion we've all come to love.

This Adopt a Cat Month, we'd like for someone to look beyond the diagnosis, because after nearly a year of waiting, Lily deserves more than a favorite spot at the shelter. She deserves a favorite spot in a home of her very own.

Every cat deserves someone willing to look beyond first impressions. If you'd like to adopt, foster, volunteer, or support cats like Lily, visit our website: https://www.rmfr-colorado.org/

Juniper trees don't just survive difficult conditions, they remain evergreen through them, and this Juniper has done much the same. After being surrendered by her first owner, she got a second chance and found the perfect spot to take root.

Since then, she's become quite the character.

Incredibly friendly and chatty, Juniper is always ready to greet her people and offer thoughts on whatever's going on. According to her family, age has also brought a mischievous streak. Door handles have become a source of fascination, while household valuables have been known to migrate to new locations overnight. Whether these events are connected remains under investigation.

Along the way, she formed a close bond with her older sister, turning what was once a new home into a place that feels completely her own.

Turns out all Juniper needed was the right place to grow. The rest came naturally.

It takes a village to help hundreds of cats each year, and this year we're especially grateful for Zia, a student from VALE (Venture Academy of Leadership and Entrepreneurship), who spend the school year learning, creating, and volunteering alongside our team.

Over the past year, Zia jumped into just about every corner of rescue life. From caring for cats and assisting with daily shelter tasks to welcoming visitors and supporting adoptions, she was always ready to lend a hand. She also shared her artistic talents by creating cat-inspired artwork, stickers, and flyers that helped tell the stories of the animals in our care.

To showcase her work at VALE's Vendorium, Zia brought her passion for cats and creativity together in a booth featuring handmade artwork and stickers, information about RMFR and our mission, and a donation jar supporting Oddity, one of our latest rescue miracles.

We're so thankful for the time, talent, and heart Zia shared with us this year. Her contributions made a difference for our cats, our volunteers, and our community. We're excited to see where your talents take you next!
