This has been a really tough week. On Monday I lost my boy Roper. It was unexpected & fast. He was 10 1/2yrs old. He was so much more than my companion. He was so much more than a great temperament tester, puppy wrangler, natural splitter or enforcer. He was the dog I traveled with. He was the first dog that I trained with the intention of him helping me with rescue dogs that I worked with. He allowed me to make mistakes, when working with him. When I figured it out, he went right along with my new approach & let me know if it would work or not. He was such a fun dog! He had the most engaging smile & was up for any adventure or experience with me.
When helping families understand their dog’s behaviors, more often than not, I would use an experience with Roper as an anecdotal example. Almost anyone who has brought a dog to me, in the past 10.5yrs, met or heard about him.
While my heart is absolutely broken over losing him, I am so thankful for the time I did have with him. He was a true heart dog for me. Roper was NOT a perfect dog. What Roper was was a perfect dog for me. 💙
