PSA: Parasite control is NOT optional. It can save a life

This is the face of an 11-month-old female cat who was never spayed.
She had her first litter of kittens in DeMotte while living outdoors and struggling to survive.

A kind local animal advocate saw that she needed help and brought her to us. At first glance, she was thought to have a pr*****ed uterus.
This is fixable with a simple spay. (hysterectomy)
Upon further investigation… what the veterinarian explained was heartbreaking. Her RE**UM had pr*****ed and was coming out of her body. Our veterinarian has more than 20 years of experience and had never seen a case this severe. This animal was suffering from a severe parasite infestation including roundworms and tapeworms. These parasites were eating her soft tissue from the inside out

The parasites had taken a terrible toll on her young body. She was extremely sick but never cried out or showed obvious signs of pain.
Cats are very good at hiding their suffering.
By the time she received help her condition was too severe. Sadly, the only option we had was to euthanize her, a human with a pr*****ed re**um would receive a colostomy bag. There is no option of that for an animal

Her kittens are now our focus

Please learn from this. Parasite control is extremely important

If you have pets or care for community cats please talk to your veterinarian about proper parasite prevention. We use Strongid Paste when on the field. Spaying and neutering is also critical to help prevent more kittens from being born into a life of suffering outdoors

Cici is a 3-year-old female kitty looking for someone to give her a little time and a whole lot of love. ❤️

She absolutely LOVES pets! She’s still a little scared and unsure about being at the shelter, but we think once she gets comfortable and realizes she’s safe, she’s really going to warm up and show her sweet personality.

Cici has lived with another cat, so she may do well with a feline friend with the proper introduction.

Minnie is a 3-year-old female who has been through more than any little cat should have to endure. When she came to us, she was in rough shape and very skinny. But despite everything, Minnie has never stopped being exceptionally sweet. ❤️

With lots of care, good food, and plenty of love, we’ve nursed this special girl back to health. She still has a little way to go, but she’s getting stronger every day!

Minnie LOVES to eat — and honestly, can you blame her? 😻 She deserves a home where she will never have to worry about going without food, love, attention, or a warm, safe place to call her own.

She is a sweet, dignified little lady with so much love to give. Minnie is truly one of those special cats who deserves someone willing to show her just how wonderful life can be.

He can be a little shy at first, but he’s starting to discover that the world isn’t so scary—especially now that he has a new friend helping him come out of his shell. 🥰 He also does well with other cats!

💗 BELLA’S STORY ISN’T OVER… IT’S JUST BEGINNING. 💗
Meet Bella, our sweet 3-year-old mixed breed girl who has already been through more than any dog should.

When Bella came to us, she was extremely underweight and clearly had a rough start to life. But somehow, through it all, this girl never let the world take away her happiness. 🥹

Bella is still full of life, love, and personality. And yes… this girl LOVES to eat! 😂 We’ve been slowly and safely helping her put weight back on, and she still has quite a bit more to gain. She’s making progress, but she needs time.

More than anything, Bella needs someone who understands that healing doesn’t happen overnight.

She needs love. Patience. Consistency. A soft place to land. ❤️

Bella previously lived in a home with another dog, so we know she has experience sharing her world with a canine companion. She’s also very curious about cats, so with the right introductions and the right family, we think Bella could continue to blossom.

She has already shown us that her past doesn’t define her.

Now she just needs someone to show her what a forever home is supposed to feel like.
