When you have this many dogs in your home (ages range 5months to 13yrs) there must be order amongst the chaos. At Wags to Whiskers we find order when & where we can. This means eating is structured and separate and going outside is a task that is allowed by permission and in shifts. Everyone gets out together eventually but I’m not getting trampled! There’s bell on the door that our dogs use to us of potty time, and you’d be surprised how quickly other dogs pick this up.
We have dogs here from 4 different families (including my own) and they are all expected to wait until they are released to go outside. I evaluate every that comes into my home and their interactions with other dogs. This is how I create the harmony you see. Plus treats! I will even open the door half way and the doggos they are not allowed to budge until I release them. I don’t hold them like this for long, but long enough to get the lesson completed! Short frequent lessons are beneficial whilelong and repetitive can the dogs shut down, lose focus and then the whole lesson is kaput.
We have from front right to left, 2 rows. Front row- Bali, Chase, and Boo; Back row right to left- Nova, Cooper, and Addison. Not pictured: Pip! He’s already outside. Rules are different when you’re the smallest little Pomeranian in the pack. But don’t let that fool you. He holds his own! The big dogs give him plenty of space and do not harass him at all.
