He had always loved surgery and dentistry and found it to be needed among many of his patients. Shortly thereafter, the name was changed to Prairie Side Veterinary Hospital. Since Dr. Glaeser was no longer associated with the practice, Dr. Susmilch felt it was time to recognize that publicly (and no one can pronounce Dr. Susmilch's last name). Dr. Susmilch felt there was so much more that he could
offer to the pets in southeast Wisconsin. He got the opportunity to help Dr. Fritsche by purchasing Franksville Veterinary Clinic in 2012. He also realized that many pet owners were seeking a higher level of dental and surgical care. He added his first associate doctor and he started attending advanced classes in his favorite field. The options for his clients started increasing rapidly. Besides offering standard surgery and dentistry, Dr. Susmilch and his team started offering orthopedic surgery and advanced dentistry. In 2014, Crossroads Animal Hospital, located on Lathrop in Racine, WI was purchased from Dr. Guerts. The business had been grown over the years by Dr. Guerts, but the building lacked the space needed to move it forward. In 2017, the business was moved to its current location at 6300 Washington Rd (Hwy 20) in Racine, WI and continues to grow rapidly as it serves Racine and Mount Pleasant. Finally, in 2019, Dr. Susmilch acquired Delavan Animal Clinic when Dr. Benzon decided it was time to move to the next phase of his life. Dr. Benstead had started the clinic in 1976. After years of growing the clinic, he sold it to Dr. Benzon in 1994. Dr. Benzon continued to grow the practice as the community of Delavan grew. Eventually, he added an associate veterinarian and grew even faster. Additionally, in 2019, the Kenosha location (Prairie Side Veterinary Hospital) found a new home in a former orthodontic's office. Dr. Susmilch and his team moved from Hwy 50 to the corner of 85th St and 39th Ave in Kenosha. The moved doubled the amount of room available to treat patients and added services to part of the community previously underserved. Dr. Susmilch continues to serve the practices on a daily basis. He offers advanced dental care, including root canals, bonded sealants, acrylic ramps (orthodontic work), surgical extractions, and tumor removals. Additionally, he offers advanced orthopedic work, including knee repairs and bone plating. Today, the clinics focus on Wellness Care for their patients. By trying to prevent and delay disease, we bring joy to peoples lives through the extended life that our patients experience. We also work on eliminating pain, or when not possible, reducing pain so that our patients' lives are the most productive they can be. Everyone deserves joy in their lives. Our goal is to add that joy through the health of their pets.
