🦴 Condition Corner 🦴

Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) is a progressive disease of the spinal cord that affects a dog’s ability to control and coordinate their hind limbs. It often starts with subtle weakness or wobbliness and can gradually progress over time ⌚️

Common signs include:
🌀 Hind limb weakness or wobbliness
🐾 Knuckling or dragging the paws
⚖️ Loss of balance and coordination
🦵 Difficulty standing or walking

Symptoms become more pronounced over time, eventually leading to loss of bodily functions and total paralysis. This sounds scary, but DM is completely painless which can give owners some peace of mind ✨😌. It is often congenital, meaning it has a genetic component, though some breeds are more susceptible than others 🧬

Commonly afflicted breeds:
German Shepherds, Corgis, Boxers, Bernese Mountain Dogs

While there is currently no cure for DM, veterinary rehabilitation can play an important role in helping dogs maintain strength and independence for as long as possible 💪💙

😛👅 Tongue Out Tuesday!👅😛

Meet Nuddge, the amazing 11-year-old Border Collie who graduated from rehab in August! 🐶🎓

Nuddge was being treated for right hindlimb monoparesis and peripheral neuropathy. Early in her rehab journey, she needed a no-knuckling boot to help support her affected limb—but thanks to her hard work and consistent progress, she no longer needs it! 🎉🐾

Nuddge’s favorite part of rehab is showing off her skills during land-exercise therapy! 💪✨ She’s proving that those little steps forward can add up to some pretty amazing accomplishments.

We’re so proud of you, Nuddge! Keep showing off those skills—and that adorable tongue-out smile!

Drop a 😛 in the comments to congratulate Nuddge!

🔍 Behind the Scenes at FVR 🔍

Safety first…but make it fashionable 😎✨

Our patients may be here for laser therapy, but they’re also serving some serious looks in their protective goggles. 🐶🐱🕶️

Some patients rock them like total pros—cool, calm, and collected.
Others? A little goofy, a little confused, but 100% adorable. 😍
And then there are the serious ones…locked in and ready for their spa-like treatment. 💅✨

No matter their vibe, one thing is certain—they’ve all got style. 💁🐾

And while they’re looking good, the laser is working hard behind the scenes to reduce pain, decrease inflammation, and promote healing. A win-win if you ask us!
