DEKALB AFRICAN CICHLIDS would like to thank the GCCA, Matt and his crew and the entire membership along with all the great attendees for providing a end of spring season event that drew a fabulous crowd. Your hard work helps all of us vendors give the customers a wide array of aquarium based fare. Also a thank you to all the vendors for their efforts and also for their food purchases from us. We will be back in the fall. During the spring and summer we do appear at the Greenwater swaps ( next one on $/18/26) and this year we are venturing to South Bend for our first time on Sat 4/25/26. Hope to see old friends and make new ones. Again our thanks to the GCCA. If you are not a member consider it. It is an excellent way to connect with a large number of hobbyists all in the same place. Spring and summer await...and so does my other hobby,, walleye fishing.

DEKALB AFRICAN CICHLIDS will be a vendor at the GCCA Fish Swap on Sunday 3/29/26 in Northbrook Il starting at 9:30 for early entry and 10am for regular entry. We will have a selection of adult and juveniles and have expended our inventory into selected mbuna such as White Tail Acei, Red Zebras, Yellow Labs and more. We will also have a great selection of frozen foods featuring our new 1 # Beef Heart product along with dry foods, Flakes, Pellets and Wafers. We have nice pricing on sponge filters, corner filters and a couple HOB's along with small accessories. Time to stock up for outdoor ponds this summer. 1 week away! DEKALB AFRICAN CICHLIDS will be attending 2 swaps next weekend. Sat 3/21/26 we will be at Tinley Park from 10a-1p for the Greenwater Fish swap and then Sunday 3/22/26 in Cottage Grove WS from 12p-3p for the Southern Wisconsin Fish Swap. Another big THANK YOU to the GCCA and especially to Matt and his crew for a big Fish Swap on Sunday. Maxed out vendor space and hosted a very large turn out. Happy vendors and satisfied customers. That is how it is done folks. DEKALB AFRICAN CICHLIDS will be returning on 3/29 /26. This will be the last spring swap so stock up on your needs and secure contact info from your vendors for summertime orders. We will also be in Tinley Park for the GWAS swap on 3/21/26 and in Cottage Grove WS for the SWFS Fish Swap on Sunday 3/22/26. DEKALB AFRICAN CICHLIDS continues the early (and chilly) swap season as we travel to Tinley Park on Sat 1/31/26 for the first 2026 swap for GWAS Swap season. We will be bringing African Cichlids, plecos, frozen foods, dry foods. equipment and accessories. Pre orders are suggested for frozen foods especially as we only bring so much. Our website

DEKALB AFRICAN CICHLIDS will be attending the Greenwater Fish Swap 2 weeks from today on 9/13/25 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Tinley Park. Breaking down the summer ponds a couple days before and have some really nice grow outs : Macaw Cichlids, Nyereri, OB's, Dolphins, Sapphires and more. Our inventory inside is maxed out. Swap season is closing in on the aquarium hobby. Still plenty of sunshine left but Mother Nature will turn off the oven and turn on the A/C shortly. September begins our swap adventures so I thought I would post my little yearly Swap reminder list to make vendors jobs easier and consumers happier.
1} Cash is king. Some take credit, some electronic but we all take cash.
2) Take an initial quick loop around the swap to compare prices and selection. That said it is first come first serve so if you cannot do without a product grab it.
3) Be patient as tables can only accommodate so many people at a time.
Make a list of not only purchases but questions that vendors may be able to answer for you.
4) These swaps carry almost anything to do with the hobby so foods and hard goods can be had at reasonable rates
5) If you want something and know a vendor has them pre order so they know to bring it along. None of us can bring everything so pre ordering guarantees your item. Some ask for deposits some do not. Some do not do pre orders so check ahead of time. Pre orders also mean you do not have to be the first thru the door.
6} Most swaps have a vendor list with a general list of what each brings. Check it out to see what you can expect
7} Questions to the vendors about anything are as important as the purchases. Most of us have been at the hobby for more than a few years and may have actually learned a few tricks. Take advantage of our experience so you do not learn the hard way = Dead Fish
8) These are family events. The kids love looking at the fish and the non hobby adults sometimes see how much fun we have and enjoy themselves also.
9) If you are picking up fish or frozen goods (food) bring a cooler or insulated bag to protect your treasures from the elements. Most vendors supply plastic bags but they offer little protection
