Our experienced show horses excel in many areas. This year our focus will be on Ranch Riding. This increasingly popular discipline brings riders closer to the Western origins of working cowboys and their horses. No silver, no bling. Riders dress in traditional working attire. April school vacation is almost here. Are you looking for something fun for your kiddo away from electronics? Spinner Farm offers a limited opportunity for Horsemanship and Farm Camp. We are a working farm with horses, sheep, and gardens on 24 acres in Deering NH. Our focus is on education, safety, and fun. So much to learn, so much to do. M-F 9-3. Extended hours available. People often ask me why my students are encouraged to only use reins to slow down or back up horses. Why they don't use a bit in the horse's mouth for beginners. The simple answer is the horses don't need it.

If your horses can stop and steer without the rider pulling on the horse's mouth, why would you teach that? The western trained horses feels where you are looking. The respond to gentle pressure with your legs or shifts in your body weight. They are trained at the highest levels to subtle pressure and release.

And honestly, pulling on a horses especially when there is a piece of metal in their sensitive mouth. It can dull the horse's response, it can hurt them, and lead them to resent being ridden. My riders need to learn self regulation - using their body and not just their hands.

Yes we started their training using both reins, teaching them to give to gentle pressure. They are so far beyond that at this point.

Looks like the day time temps will be rising. We are restarting horseback riding lessons again after a two week pause due to the cold. Still need to dress in layers. The heat comes on in June.....

We have had more ice than usual this winter. That hasn't stopped our students from their riding lessons. Grateful for our indoor riding arena. We still have a few spots available. For the homeschoolers, we are an EFA approved educational facility. Physical education, animal science, laws of gravity and balance are a few of the concepts that we teach and explore. Plan now for February school vacation day camp now.
