Had a great day of training with the team today. We worked at a new location that brought different environments, unfamiliar odors, and plenty of distractions for both the dogs and handlers to work through.
The K9s and handlers did an excellent job staying focused, working through the challenges, and putting in solid work from start to finish. Training in new environments is an important part of building confident, reliable teams.
Proud of everyone’s effort today—looking forward to the next training session! 🐾💪

A detection dog may start searching an area, work a vehicle, then suddenly wrap around it and drive straight toward the outer edge of the search area. That doesn’t mean the dog is distracted or leaving the problem—it often means the dog is following odor movement.
Let the dog work through the odor picture. Once the dog has taken you to the area of interest, you can always return and methodically re-search the vehicle, surrounding area, and any missed sections to ensure the entire area has been properly cleared.
A good handler does not force the dog to search where we think the odor should be. We follow the dog, read the behavior, and then use a systematic search plan to confirm the full area is clear.

A bomb-detection K9 doesn’t just search an area—they work every inch of it.
This German Shepherd began a detailed sweep, then moved into the brickwork and methodically checked every seam, gap, and crack. With focus, drive, and an incredible nose, the dog worked the source all the way to final response.
That level of commitment is what makes a properly trained detection K9 so impressive. The smallest odor picture can lead them through places people would never think to search.
Truly amazing work from an exceptional dog. 🐕‍🦺💥

Some days the training plan doesn’t look perfect—but the work still gets done.
A German Shepherd bomb dog working a vehicle search, then clearing the exterior of an RV: focused, methodical, and putting in the reps that matter. And on some days, getting that rep in means strapping the baby on your back and adapting.
Because consistency isn’t always convenient. Train the dog. Build the team. Handle life.

What a great day of training! 🐕‍🦺💥
Our K9 teams put in work today with both fi***rm and narcotics detection training. Getting out to a new location brought fresh challenges, new environments, and valuable real-world experience for the dogs and handlers.
Every training day builds sharper teams and safer communities. Proud of the progress!

Even after more than a year without being fired, a fi***rm can still leave behind detectable odor.
Today’s training focused on a K9 searching inside a trailer for a fi***rm that had not been discharged in over 12 months. The dog worked the entire space methodically, staying focused through the changing air currents, confined areas, and distractions that come with a trailer search.
This is why consistent training matters. Detection work is not about guessing—it’s about building a dog’s confidence, obedience, and ability to independently work odor in real-world environments.
