We got a few questions about Eriocaulon buergerianum from our last post. This is one of the plants we’ll be growing out as an aquarium plant and for terrariums (it’s doing great in both for us). Like the Eriocaulon vietnam that we have available this one is also a dense carpeting plant if you let it grow in and replant clippings. While the vietnam is super easy and fast growing, the buergerianum is slower and more demanding in aquarium applications.

I really wouldn’t label it a slow grower since we’re getting decent growth everywhere we’ve put it after it settled in from tissue culture clippings. As a foreground to midground plant for aquariums it looks different from your usual grass like plants with tighter tufted rosettes of smaller compact leaves. Once it’s settled it roots pretty quickly and starts growing. We’re looking forward to seeing this grown out as a carpeting plant and an accent in some terrarium displays.

The store is packed right now! This terrarium and aquarium plant order is finally settled and doing great. We have a ton of new anubias strains, a few Philippine Anubias (Schismatoglottis prietoi) available, a new rare species of Eriocaulon that we’re growing out (really cool looking), Begonias, several types of Selaginella, Hygrophila angustifolia Rubra that’s gettting bushy, Hygrophila compact, several species of Bucephelandra all growing in, mosses, we also have a new strain of sword Echinodorus xinguensis that suddenly started growing hot pink runners! We have a wider selection of strains and species in stock right now than we’ve ever had before and most of it is easy stuff all the way up to more advanced plants for those of you who have discovered how great CO2 is. We’ve also been converting some of the aquatic plants to terrestrial growth so we have some species available for both aquarium and vivarium use!

This Star Sapphire Tanzania African Cichlid is even better looking in person. This was a random pick from our normal batch that went to a service client we see weekly, so we’ve gotten to see this fish go from just a really nice deep blue fish to the stud you see before you. We have one juvenile Sapphire left in the store right now. They don’t come around all the time from this breeder.

This was a fun interview and we discussed a lot more than what made it into the final article. It’s always good talking about what goes into designing custom aquariums with people who aren’t in the hobby or industry, but have an interest. You always get a new perspective on what they think is cool or interesting. Thanks Dan’s Papers for the interest in what we’re doing!

Today is the day! Our plant order arrives at the store shortly and it is packed with some awesome aquarium plants, terrarium plants, and vivarium plants. Technically we also have paludarium plants too, because it’s the same stuff. A lot of new plant strains in this order and everything from easy to high tech plants available! If you want to add some serious color to your display, this plant shipment definitely delivers! Terrestrial and aquatic mosses available. We’ll also be keeping some plants for grow out in our systems so we’ll have both aquatic and terrestrial versions available moving forward.

Apistogramma Hongsloi and Golden Eye Cichlids (Nannacara anomala) are finally back in the store after a long hiatus! Some of the best looking dwarf cichlids around and they don’t come around often. We also have another first time Apisto species available, but you’ll have to see that one for yourself. Other new species in store as well and more updates later.

We have new fish arriving tomorrow! More new species and some returning favorites. Next week we have our largest plant order ever arriving at the store! Tons of new strains and species. Lots of hard to find Anubias, swords, stem plants, mosses, etc. We have some really stunning vivarium and terrarium plants arriving with this order! New hard to find floaters are coming in too. We went a little wild on this one and some of the plants are very limited numbers, so first come first served!
